When you talk about Midwest trucking, heavy hauling, and custom show trucks, the name J&L Contracting stands out.

Based in Springfield, Missouri, this family-operated company has built a reputation not only for moving oversized loads across America but also for creating some of the most recognized trucks on the show circuit.

Two of the best-known Kenworths associated with the business are Never Satisfied, a legendary heavy haul show truck, and Devilish Ways, a modern custom-built workhorse that proves show quality and real-world functionality can exist in the same package.

From One Truck to an Industry Leader

Founded in 2005, J&L Contracting grew from a single dump truck and backhoe.

During the 2020 interview, Jamie Williams described an operation with approximately 200 pieces of equipment, 70 trucks, and about 140 employees.

The company performs excavating work throughout several Midwest states while hauling specialized, oversized, and dimensional freight across the United States.

The company name itself tells the story of what matters

J&L stands for Jack and Lauren, owner Jamie Williams' children, reflecting the importance of family in both business and trucking.

That family-first attitude carries through every truck, every employee, and every mile.

Devilish Ways: Modern Performance Meets Classic Kenworth
Style

Built as a working truck with show-quality details, Devilish Ways is a 2019 Kenworth W900L that combines modern technology with timeless styling.

Originally built by J&L for a customer, the truck later returned to J&L ownership when the company purchased it from him.

Finished in a striking Viper Red paint scheme with custom orange and gray striping, nearly every detail is hand-painted.

Never Satisfied: A Heavy-Haul Legend

Some trucks become famous because of trophies. Others become famous because they continue to work after earning them.

Never Satisfied did both during J&L’s ownership.

It began as a 2008 Kenworth W900L factory truck with a 525-hp Cummins ISX, 18-speed transmission, and 46,000-lb rear axle.

By the time 2020 rolled around, this award-winning rig had accumulated roughly 620,000 to 630,000 miles on the odometer. 

After its 22-month-long transformation, the truck had also returned to work hauling oversized freight and super loads.

Under J&L ownership, the truck won competitions as both a bobtail and combination unit.

Its honors included the 2017 American Truck Show Circuit National Championship for Best Limited for Show Combo.

This experience inspired J&L to form Never Satisfied Builds to handle custom fabrication, paint, accessories, frame stretches, hydraulics, and heavy-haul modifications

One of the most impressive things about Never Satisfied is how many talented builders contributed to the project.

Custom components and craftsmanship include:

• Fully customized interior chrome panels

Even details hidden from view received attention, including roughly 300 hours of hand sanding inside the hood, along with sanding and finishing work on the cab’s interior surfaces.

An Interior Unlike Anything Else

The interior of Never Satisfied is as impressive as the exterior.

Featuring white diamond-tuck leather with red buttons, custom red, white, and blue carpet, LED accents, custom consoles, and a premium sound system, the cab blends luxury with personality.

Every panel, trim piece, and surface was carefully designed to complement the truck's patriotic red, white, and blue theme.

During J&L's ownership, the Kenworth served as both a showpiece and a working truck. The interior reflected the pride J&L Contracting put into the entire build.

Built to Work. Built to Win.

At the time of the 2020 interview, these trucks were not trailer queens.

Never Satisfied had returned to heavy-haul work, and Devilish Ways was designed from the beginning as a functional working truck. Both proved that craftsmanship and capability could go hand in hand.

J&L later sold Never Satisfied to AN Transport around 2022.

By 2024, AN Transport used the truck mainly for shows, with occasional empty-trailer and small-equipment work. The new owner also commissioned further modifications, including a wheelbase stretch from 280 to 320 inches.
