International DuraStar Fuel Tank Brackets & Straps

Frequently Asked Questions About International DuraStar Fuel Tank Brackets & Straps

What is the purpose of fuel tank brackets and straps on my International DuraStar?

Fuel tank brackets and straps are responsible for securely mounting and supporting the fuel tank to the truck's frame rails. They keep the tank stable during operation, absorb road vibration, and prevent excessive movement that could lead to fuel line stress, leaks, or tank damage over time.

How do I know if my brackets or straps need to be replaced?

Common signs include visible rust or corrosion, cracks or bends in the bracket metal, frayed or stretched straps, unusual movement or rattling noise from the fuel tank area, or a tank that sits unevenly against the frame. If you notice any of these issues during a routine inspection, it's a good idea to replace the affected components before they fail completely.

Will these brackets and straps fit my specific DuraStar model year?

Fuel tank mounting components can vary based on tank size, frame configuration, and model year, so it's important to check the product listing for specific fitment details before ordering. If you're unsure whether a bracket or strap matches your truck's setup, our team can help confirm compatibility using your VIN or tank specifications.

What material are these brackets and straps typically made from, and how do they hold up over time?

Fuel tank brackets are commonly made from steel for strength and durability, while straps are often steel or a coated material designed to resist wear from constant tension and road exposure. Powder-coated or galvanized finishes help improve resistance to rust and corrosion, which is especially important given their constant exposure to moisture, road debris, and temperature changes.

Can I install fuel tank brackets and straps myself, or should I have a professional do it?

Many drivers and shop technicians replace fuel tank brackets and straps as part of routine maintenance, and the process generally involves supporting the tank, removing the worn hardware, and securing the new brackets or straps in place. However, because the fuel tank is heavy and must be properly supported and aligned during installation, this job is often best handled by someone with the right lifting equipment and mechanical experience to ensure a safe, secure fit.
