Peterbilt 587 Driving Lights

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 587 Driving Lights

Will these driving lights fit my Peterbilt 587 without modification?

Driving lights in this category are designed to mount in the factory bezel or bumper locations on the Peterbilt 587, so they should install using the existing mounting points and wiring provisions. It is still a good idea to confirm the exact year of your truck and compare the product listing details, since minor trim or bezel changes across production years can affect fit.

Are these lights DOT and FMVSS compliant for on-road use?

Most driving lights sold for the Peterbilt 587 are manufactured to meet DOT and SAE requirements for auxiliary or driving lamps. Check the product description or packaging for DOT and SAE markings before installation, and make sure the lights are aimed and wired correctly so they do not interfere with your required headlamps or turn signals.

What is the difference between LED and halogen driving lights for this truck?

LED driving lights generally draw less current, produce a brighter and whiter light output, and last significantly longer than halogen bulbs, making them a popular upgrade. Halogen lights are typically less expensive upfront but will need bulb replacement more often. Both styles are available in housings designed to match the Peterbilt 587 fascia.

Do I need any special tools or wiring knowledge to install these lights?

Basic installation usually involves removing the existing light or trim panel, connecting the new light to the factory harness or plug-and-play connector, and securing it with the provided mounting hardware. Most drivers can complete the swap with common hand tools, but if your setup requires splicing wires or adding a relay, some basic electrical knowledge is helpful.

What housing materials and finishes are available, and how durable are they?

Driving lights for the Peterbilt 587 are commonly offered in chrome-plated, black, or stainless steel housings with polycarbonate or glass lenses. Chrome and stainless finishes hold up well to road grime and washing but may show water spots if not cleaned regularly, while black housings tend to hide minor scuffs better over time.
