Kenworth T880 Fuel Tank Brackets & Straps

Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth T880 Fuel Tank Brackets & Straps

What is the difference between a fuel tank bracket and a fuel tank strap?

Fuel tank brackets are the mounting components that attach the fuel tank to the truck frame, typically bolting directly to the frame rail and supporting the weight of the tank. Straps wrap around the tank itself and connect to the brackets or frame to hold the tank securely in place and prevent shifting while the truck is in motion. Most fuel tank mounting setups use both parts together.

Will these brackets and straps fit my specific Kenworth T880 fuel tank size?

Fuel tank brackets and straps are typically sized to match a specific tank diameter and mounting configuration, so it is important to confirm your tank size (such as 50, 70, 100, or 120 gallon capacity) and mounting style before ordering. If you are unsure of your tank specifications, check your tank for stamped capacity information or consult your truck's build sheet, and reach out to our team for help confirming fitment.

What material are these brackets and straps made from, and will they hold up in harsh conditions?

Fuel tank brackets and straps are commonly made from steel or aluminum, often with a protective coating or finish to help resist rust and corrosion from road salt, moisture, and general wear. Steel components tend to offer strong durability for heavy-duty use, while aluminum options can help reduce overall weight. Check the specific product listing for material and finish details before purchasing.

Can I install fuel tank brackets and straps myself, or do I need a professional?

Many truck owners and shop technicians install fuel tank brackets and straps themselves, as the process generally involves supporting the tank, removing the old hardware, and bolting the new brackets and straps into place. However, since the fuel tank is a heavy component that requires proper support during removal and installation, some drivers prefer to have this done by a qualified technician to ensure everything is secured correctly and safely.

How do I know if my current brackets or straps need to be replaced?

Common signs that it is time to replace fuel tank brackets or straps include visible rust or corrosion, cracks, bends, or stretching in the metal, loose or missing hardware, or a fuel tank that shifts or makes noise while driving. Regularly inspecting these components can help catch wear early and avoid more serious issues with tank stability on the road.
