International 9200/9400 Cab, Sleeper & Cowl Panels

Frequently Asked Questions About International 9200/9400 Cab, Sleeper & Cowl Panels

What exactly are cab, sleeper, and cowl panels?

These are the exterior sheet metal or fiberglass body panels that make up the outer skin of the cab and sleeper compartment on International 9200 and 9400 series trucks, along with the cowl panels located below the windshield. They cover structural framing and provide the finished exterior surface of the truck, including sections around doors, corners, back-of-cab, sleeper walls, and the cowl area at the base of the windshield.

Will these panels fit my specific 9200 or 9400 model year and cab configuration?

Fitment can vary depending on the exact model year, cab style (day cab vs. sleeper), and sleeper length, since International made changes to body panel designs across production years. Always check the listed fitment details on each product page and compare measurements or part numbers against your truck before ordering. If you are unsure, having your VIN or your existing panel's part number on hand will help confirm the correct match.

What material are these panels made from, and how does that affect durability?

Panels in this category are typically made from either steel, aluminum, or fiberglass, depending on the specific part and original manufacturer design. Steel and aluminum panels generally offer more rigidity and are often used for structural cab sections, while fiberglass is common for certain sleeper and cowl components due to its lighter weight and resistance to corrosion. The listing for each panel should specify the material so you can choose based on your durability needs and repair situation.

Do these panels come pre-painted, primed, or in raw material finish?

Most replacement panels are sold in a raw or primed finish rather than pre-painted to match your truck's color, since paint matching varies by fleet and individual truck. This means you should plan for paint and finish work as part of your installation budget. If a specific panel does come with a factory finish or coating, that will be noted in the product description.

What should I know before installing a replacement panel myself?

Installation typically involves removing fasteners, adhesive, or welds securing the damaged panel, then fitting and securing the new one using similar hardware or methods as the original. Depending on the panel, this can range from a straightforward bolt-on replacement to a more involved job requiring cutting, welding, or bodywork skills. If you are not experienced with body panel replacement, it is a good idea to consult a repair manual for your specific International model or have the work done by a qualified technician to ensure proper fit and structural integrity.
