Mack CX Truck Fuel Tanks

Frequently Asked Questions About Mack CX Truck Fuel Tanks

Will a replacement fuel tank fit my Mack CX correctly?

Fuel tanks vary by capacity, mounting bracket configuration, and strap style, so it is important to match the tank to your specific Mack CX model year and chassis setup. Always compare dimensions, capacity, and mounting hole placement to your original tank before ordering, and reach out to our team if you are unsure about compatibility.

What materials are these fuel tanks made from, and does it affect performance?

Mack CX fuel tanks are typically constructed from aluminum or steel. Aluminum tanks are lighter and resist corrosion well, while steel tanks tend to be more rugged but heavier and more prone to rust over time if not maintained. The right choice often depends on your priorities around weight savings versus long-term durability.

How do I know what fuel capacity I need?

Fuel tank capacity is usually listed in gallons and should match or reasonably exceed your original equipment tank to maintain your truck's range and balance. Check your existing tank's capacity rating, typically stamped or labeled on the tank itself, before selecting a replacement.

What does installation typically involve?

Installing a fuel tank generally involves draining and disconnecting the old tank, removing the mounting straps and brackets, transferring or replacing hardware, and securing the new tank in place before reconnecting fuel lines and venting. This job often requires two people due to the tank's size and weight, and it's recommended to have it installed by someone experienced with fuel system work.

Do these fuel tanks come with mounting hardware and straps included?

This varies by product listing, so be sure to check the specific product details before purchasing. Some tanks are sold as a bare tank only, while others may include straps, brackets, or fittings. If your listing does not include hardware, you may need to reuse your existing straps or purchase them separately.
