Will these grilles fit my specific year Peterbilt 359?

Our Peterbilt 359 grilles are designed to fit all 359 models from 1967 to 1987. However, there are subtle differences between early models (1967-1979) and later models (1980-1987) in mounting hole patterns. Most aftermarket grilles come with universal mounting brackets that accommodate both configurations. If you have a 1986-1987 model with the extended hood option, please contact us before ordering as these may require different mounting hardware.

What's the difference between aluminum and stainless steel grille options?

Aluminum grilles are lighter weight (typically 15-20 lbs) and more affordable, making them ideal for drivers concerned about fuel efficiency or on a budget. They resist corrosion well but may show scratches more easily. Stainless steel grilles are heavier (25-35 lbs) but offer superior durability and maintain their mirror finish longer with minimal maintenance. Both materials are excellent choices, but stainless steel is preferred for show trucks or harsh weather conditions.

How difficult is the installation process, and what tools do I need?

Installation typically takes 2-3 hours for someone with basic mechanical skills. You'll need a socket set (usually 1/2" and 9/16"), Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, and possibly a drill with metal bits if your grille requires new mounting holes. The most challenging part is usually removing the old grille without damaging the surrounding chrome or paint. We recommend having a helper to support the grille during removal and installation to prevent bending or scratching.

Do these grilles come with the vertical bars, or are they sold separately?

This varies by manufacturer and model. Most complete grille assemblies include the outer shell, horizontal bars, and vertical bars as a complete unit. However, some custom or restoration-grade options sell these components separately to allow for customization. Each product listing clearly states what's included. If you're looking to replace just the vertical bars, we do carry those as individual items for most grille styles.

What grille styles work best with aftermarket bumpers?

The 15-bar and 13-bar horizontal styles are the most versatile and work well with both OEM and aftermarket bumpers. If you have a Texas-style square bumper, the standard horizontal bar grilles maintain proper proportions. For those with tapered or aerodynamic aftermarket bumpers, consider our louvered or oval-punch styles which complement the sleeker look. Always check that your bumper-to-grille gap is between 3/4" to 1-1/4" for the best appearance.
