Peterbilt 359 Hood Trim & Accents

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 359 Hood Trim & Accents

What years of Peterbilt 359 trucks will these hood trim pieces fit?

Our hood trim and accents are designed to fit Peterbilt 359 models from 1967 through 1987. However, there were minor variations during production runs, particularly in the hood mounting points between pre-1980 and post-1980 models. We recommend checking your specific model year, OEM part number, or existing measurements and comparing measurements, especially for corner trim pieces. If you're unsure about fitment, contact our support team with your truck's year and any modifications to the hood.

Are these trim pieces made from stainless steel or chrome-plated materials?

We carry both options depending on the specific trim piece. Most of our premium hood spears, bug deflectors, and accent strips are made from 304-grade stainless steel with either a mirror polish or brushed finish. Some decorative pieces and OEM-style replacements are chrome-plated steel or ABS plastic. Each product listing specifies the exact material and finish. Stainless steel options typically cost more but offer superior corrosion resistance and don't require re-chroming.

Do I need to drill holes in my hood to install these trim pieces?

Installation requirements vary by trim type. Hood spears and center trim typically use existing factory mounting holes or attach with industrial-grade 3M VHB tape. Bug deflectors usually require drilling 4-6 holes along the hood's leading edge. Corner trim and side accents often combine adhesive mounting with small screws.

Will aftermarket hood trim work with my fiberglass or aluminum aftermarket hood?

Most trim pieces work with aftermarket hoods, but fitment can vary. Fiberglass hoods often have slightly different dimensions than OEM steel hoods, particularly in thickness and curve radius. Aluminum hoods typically match OEM specifications better. For fiberglass hoods, you may need to modify mounting brackets or use additional adhesive. We recommend test-fitting pieces before final installation and can provide guidance on specific aftermarket hood brands.

How do I match the finish of new trim pieces to my existing chrome?

Matching chrome finishes can be challenging since chrome plating varies between manufacturers and ages differently. For the best match, we recommend replacing trim pieces in complete sets rather than individually. If you must match existing pieces, our mirror-polished stainless steel often blends well with aged chrome. For exact matching, consider having all pieces professionally polished or re-chromed together. We offer both bright chrome and show chrome finishes, with show chrome providing the deepest, most reflective finish.
