Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 330/335/337 Hoods & Related

Will these hoods fit my specific year model Peterbilt 330, 335, or 337?

Most aftermarket hoods for Peterbilt 330, 335, and 337 models are designed to fit trucks manufactured from 2005 to present. However, there were minor design changes in 2008 and 2011 that may affect fitment of certain components like hood hinges and latches. Always verify your truck's exact year and OEM prefix when ordering. For trucks with factory-installed air conditioning or special equipment packages, additional modifications to mounting brackets may be required.

What's the difference between fiberglass and steel hoods, and which should I choose?

Fiberglass hoods typically weigh 40-60% less than steel versions, improving fuel economy and making manual lifting easier. They resist rust but can crack under severe impact. Steel hoods are more durable against impacts and easier to repair but add 80-120 pounds to your front axle weight and require regular rust prevention. Fiberglass is ideal for highway applications, while steel better suits construction or off-road environments where debris strikes are common.

Do I need special tools or professional installation for hood replacement?

Basic hood replacement requires standard hand tools including socket sets, torque wrench, and potentially a helper for lifting. The main challenges include properly aligning hood hinges (critical for preventing stress cracks), adjusting the latch mechanism for secure closure, and ensuring proper gap spacing around fenders and grille. Most installations take 2-4 hours. Professional installation is recommended if you're also replacing hinges, adding aftermarket accessories, or dealing with damaged mounting points.

Are aftermarket hoods pre-drilled for mirrors, antennas, and other accessories?

Most replacement hoods come with standard mounting holes for factory mirror brackets and hood latches only. Holes for CB antennas, additional marker lights, bug shields, or aftermarket mirrors typically need to be drilled during installation.

How do I match the paint on a replacement hood to my existing truck color?

Replacement hoods typically arrive in primer or gel coat finish requiring paint. For exact color matching, provide your truck's paint code (found on the driver's door jamb sticker) to a professional paint shop. Budget $400-800 for professional prep and paint. Some suppliers offer pre-painted hoods using factory color codes, but expect slight variations due to sun fading on your original paint. For the best match, have a body shop blend the paint into adjacent panels.
