Kenworth T800 Exhaust Kits

Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth T800 Exhaust Kits

What is included in a Kenworth T800 exhaust kit?

A typical exhaust kit for the Kenworth T800 includes components such as exhaust stacks or pipes, elbows, clamps, and mounting brackets needed to complete or upgrade the exhaust system. Some kits are designed for straight-through setups while others include curved sections to route around the cab or frame. Be sure to check the product listing for the exact components included, as kits can vary between mild steel, aluminized steel, and stainless steel construction.

Will this exhaust kit fit my specific T800 model year and engine?

Kenworth T800 trucks were produced over many years with different engine options and chassis configurations, so exhaust routing and mounting points can vary. Always check the fitment details listed with each kit, including diameter, length, and engine compatibility, before purchasing. If you are unsure, having your VIN and engine model on hand will help confirm the correct fit.

What is the difference between aluminized and stainless steel exhaust kits?

Aluminized steel exhaust components are more affordable and offer decent corrosion resistance for everyday use, but they will eventually show surface rust over time, especially in harsh weather or road salt conditions. Stainless steel kits cost more upfront but resist corrosion and discoloration much longer, making them a popular choice for drivers who want a long-lasting, polished look.

Can I install an exhaust kit myself, or do I need a professional?

Many drivers and shop technicians install exhaust kits themselves, especially if the kit is a direct replacement using existing mounting points. Basic tools, proper clamps, and attention to correct pipe alignment are typically all that's needed. However, if your installation involves modifying existing brackets, routing, or working around emissions components, having a professional handle the job can help ensure a secure and leak-free fit.

Will a new exhaust kit affect emissions compliance or engine performance?

Exhaust components should be matched to your truck's emissions system requirements, particularly if your T800 is equipped with a DPF, SCR, or other emissions control equipment. Replacing sections of the exhaust system without maintaining proper flow and connection to these systems can affect performance and compliance. Always verify that any replacement kit is designed to work with your truck's specific emissions setup before installation.
