Kenworth T800 Exhaust Parts

Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth T800 Exhaust Parts

Will these exhaust parts fit my specific year Kenworth T800?

Most of our Kenworth T800 exhaust parts are designed to fit models from 1987 to 2024. However, there are important variations between model years. Pre-2007 T800s typically use 5-inch diameter exhaust systems, while 2008 and newer models with EPA-compliant engines often require different configurations. Always check the product description for specific year ranges, or contact our support team with your OEM number for exact fitment verification.

What's the difference between aluminized and chrome exhaust stacks, and which should I choose?

Aluminized steel stacks offer good corrosion resistance at a lower price point and typically last 3-5 years depending on conditions. Chrome stacks provide superior shine and durability, lasting 7-10 years with proper maintenance, but cost approximately 40-60% more. If you're in harsh winter climates with heavy road salt exposure, chrome is worth the investment. For milder climates or budget-conscious buyers, aluminized steel provides solid performance.

Can I install these exhaust parts myself, or do I need professional installation?

Most straight pipes, stacks, and clamps can be installed with basic hand tools in 1-3 hours. You'll typically need a socket set, torque wrench, and exhaust hangers. However, complete exhaust system replacements involving the turbo downpipe or DPF/muffler assemblies often require cutting, welding, or specialized mounting brackets. If you're comfortable with basic mechanical work, stack and tip replacements are DIY-friendly. For full system overhauls, professional installation is recommended.

How do I know if I need a curved or straight exhaust stack?

This depends on your T800's configuration and local regulations. Straight stacks work well for day cabs and trucks without sleeper fairings. Curved stacks are necessary when you need to direct exhaust away from the sleeper cab or trailer. Most curved stacks offer 30-45 degree bends. Measure from your exhaust outlet to where you want the stack to terminate, accounting for any cab extensions or fairings that might interfere with exhaust flow.

What diameter exhaust parts do I need for my T800?

Standard T800 trucks typically use 5-inch diameter exhaust systems. However, some high-horsepower engines (like the CAT C15 or Cummins ISX) may have 6-inch systems. Check your existing exhaust pipe diameter at the turbo outlet or where it exits the muffler. When in doubt, 5-inch components fit approximately 85% of T800 applications. Remember that reducer adapters are available if you need to transition between different diameters.
