Western Star 5700XE Truck Hoods & Related

Frequently Asked Questions About Western Star 5700XE Truck Hoods & Related

Will this hood fit my Western Star 5700XE without modification?

Hoods in this category are designed to match the factory fitment of the Western Star 5700XE, but production years can bring subtle changes to mounting points, latch positions, and body lines. Before ordering, check your truck's model year and compare it against the fitment notes listed on each product page. If you're unsure, our team can help confirm compatibility using your VIN or existing hood measurements.

What material are these hoods made from, and how does it hold up over time?

Most replacement and aftermarket hoods for the 5700XE are constructed from fiberglass or SMC (sheet molded composite), the same general material used in OEM hoods. These materials are chosen for their balance of durability and weight, and they hold up well to road vibration and temperature changes when properly installed and maintained. Some hoods come primed and ready for paint, while others may be offered gel-coated or pre-finished, so check the listing for specifics on finish.

Do these hoods come pre-painted, or will I need to have them painted separately?

This varies by product. Some hoods ship primed and require paint matching to your truck's color, while others may be available gel-coated or unpainted fiberglass. If color match is important for your fleet or personal truck, plan on budgeting for paint work unless the listing specifically states a factory-matched finish is included.

What's involved in installing a replacement hood, and can I do it myself?

Installation typically involves transferring or reinstalling hinges, latches, hood springs, and any brackets or trim from your old hood, then aligning and securing the new hood to the cab. Many shops and experienced owner-operators handle this in-house, but proper alignment takes patience, and a second set of hands makes the job easier. If you're replacing hardware along with the hood, make sure those components are also correctly matched to your 5700XE.

Are related hardware parts like hinges, latches, and springs sold separately?

Yes, hood-related hardware such as hinges, latches, springs, and mounting brackets are typically sold as separate components from the hood itself. This category includes both the hoods and these related parts, so you can replace a single worn component without buying an entire new hood assembly. Double-check part numbers against your existing hardware to ensure a correct match.
