Peterbilt 567/579 Winter Fronts & Bug Screens

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 567/579 Winter Fronts & Bug Screens

What is the difference between a winter front and a bug screen?

A winter front is a cold-weather cover that mounts over the grille to block airflow through the radiator, helping the engine reach and maintain proper operating temperature in freezing conditions. A bug screen is a mesh or perforated panel designed to keep insects, debris, and road grime from clogging the radiator and grille while still allowing sufficient airflow for cooling. Some products combine both functions, offering a heavier winter front for cold months and a lighter screen option for warmer seasons.

Will this fit my specific Peterbilt 567 or 579 model year?

Winter fronts and bug screens for the 567 and 579 are generally built to match the factory grille shape and mounting points for these models, but small differences in grille style or trim level can affect fit. Before ordering, check the listed model year range and grille type on the product page, and compare it to your truck's grille configuration. If you are unsure, contacting our team with your VIN or truck details is the fastest way to confirm compatibility.

What material are these made from, and how durable are they?

Most winter fronts and bug screens are made from durable materials such as coated aluminum, heavy-duty vinyl, or powder-coated steel mesh, depending on the specific product. These materials are chosen to withstand road debris, temperature swings, and repeated use across seasons. Products with a powder-coated or finished surface also tend to hold up better against rust and corrosion over time.

How difficult is it to install or remove a winter front or bug screen?

Installation is typically designed to be straightforward, using existing mounting points, magnets, or included hardware such as clips or straps, so most drivers can install these without special tools. Removal is usually just as simple, which is helpful since many drivers switch between a winter front and a bug screen or open grille as the seasons change. Specific installation steps can vary by product, so we recommend reviewing the instructions included with your particular item.

Can leaving a winter front on too long cause engine overheating?

Yes, this is a common concern among drivers. Winter fronts are meant for cold weather use because they restrict airflow to help the engine warm up faster and maintain temperature. If left on during warmer weather or heavy-load driving, they can restrict cooling enough to cause the engine to run hot. It is important to monitor coolant temperature and remove or adjust the winter front as outside temperatures rise or driving conditions change.
