Frequently Asked Questions About Volvo VNL Gen III Hoods & Related

Will a replacement hood fit my specific Volvo VNL model year?

The Volvo VNL Gen III body style covers a specific range of production years, and hoods are molded to match the exact contours, headlight mounts, and grille openings of that generation. Before ordering, confirm your truck's model year and body style against the fitment details listed on each product page, since even small differences in year or trim level can affect how the hood lines up with your fenders, grille, and hood latch system.

What material are these hoods made from, and how durable is it?

Most Gen III hoods and related components are manufactured from fiberglass composite, which is the industry standard for heavy-duty truck hoods due to its strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to road vibration cracking. Fiberglass hoods can be repaired if damaged and hold paint well, but they should be handled carefully during shipping and installation to avoid chipping the gel coat edges before painting.

Do these hoods come pre-painted, or will I need to paint them myself?

Hoods in this category are typically sold primed or in gel-coat finish rather than pre-painted, since fleets and owner-operators usually need to color-match to their existing paint scheme. Plan for professional paint work as part of your installation budget, and inspect the surface for any shipping damage before sending it to a paint shop.

What tools or help do I need to install a replacement hood?

A full hood swap is a two-person job at minimum, since these panels are large, awkward to maneuver, and easy to damage if dropped or knocked against a frame rail. You will generally need basic hand tools to disconnect the hood latch, hinges, headlight wiring harness, and any hood-mounted brackets, plus a way to safely support the hood's weight during removal and installation.

Are the mounting points and hardware included, or do I need to reuse my old parts?

Check each product listing carefully, as some hoods ship as a bare shell without hinges, latches, or headlight brackets, meaning you will need to transfer that hardware from your old hood. Other listings may include specific brackets or trim pieces called out in the description. If a part isn't explicitly listed as included, assume you'll be reusing your existing hardware and inspect it for wear before reinstalling.
