Peterbilt 587 Cab, Sleeper & Cowl Panels

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 587 Cab, Sleeper & Cowl Panels

What exactly are cab, sleeper, and cowl panels?

These are the exterior body panels that make up the structure of the Peterbilt 587's cab and sleeper compartment, along with the cowl panel located at the base of the windshield. They cover areas such as the cab corners, side panels, back-of-cab sections, and sleeper extensions, and are used to repair rust, collision damage, or wear on the truck's body.

Will these panels fit my specific Peterbilt 587 configuration?

Panel fitment can vary depending on your truck's cab length, sleeper size, and model year, since the 587 was produced with different configurations over its production run. Before ordering, check the panel's listed specifications against your VIN or existing panel dimensions, and reach out to our team if you're unsure which part matches your setup.

Are these panels made from steel, aluminum, or fiberglass?

Material varies by panel and manufacturer. Some cab and sleeper panels are steel for structural areas, while others, particularly cowl panels and certain body sections, may be fiberglass or composite. Check the individual product listing for the specific material used, as this affects both weight and installation method.

Do these panels come primed, painted, or unfinished?

Most replacement cab, sleeper, and cowl panels are sold unpainted or in a primed state so they can be color-matched to your truck during installation. If paint-matching is important to your job, plan for paint and finishing work as a separate step after the panel is mounted.

Can I install these panels myself, or do I need a body shop?

Simpler cowl panels or trim pieces may be manageable for an experienced DIYer with basic tools, but structural cab and sleeper panels often require cutting, welding, or riveting to match factory seams properly. For panels involved in structural repair or major body sections, we recommend having the work done by a qualified truck body shop to ensure proper fit, sealing, and long-term durability.
