Peterbilt 375/377 AC Driers & Compressors

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 375/377 AC Driers & Compressors

What do the AC drier and compressor actually do on my Peterbilt 375/377?

The AC compressor pressurizes and circulates refrigerant through the air conditioning system, while the AC drier (receiver drier) filters out moisture, debris, and contaminants from the refrigerant before it reaches the expansion valve or orifice tube. Both components work together to keep your cab's AC system running efficiently and to protect other AC parts from damage caused by moisture or debris.

How do I know if my AC drier or compressor needs to be replaced?

Common signs include weak or warm airflow from the vents, unusual noises coming from the compressor, visible oil residue around fittings (indicating a refrigerant leak), or the AC system cycling on and off rapidly. If your system has been opened for repair or has sat unused for a long period, replacing the drier is also recommended since it absorbs moisture over time.

Will these parts fit my specific Peterbilt 375 or 377 model year?

Fitment can vary by model year, cab configuration, and whether your truck has factory or aftermarket AC components. Always check the listed specifications, part numbers, and compatible year ranges on each product page, and compare them against your truck's existing part number when possible to confirm a correct match before ordering.

Should I replace the AC drier every time I replace the compressor?

Yes, it's standard practice to replace the AC drier whenever the compressor is replaced or the AC system is opened for any significant repair. This helps ensure any moisture or debris introduced during the repair is filtered out and reduces the risk of contaminating your new compressor.

Do I need to evacuate and recharge the AC system after installing a new drier or compressor?

Yes. Any time the AC system is opened to install a new drier or compressor, it must be properly evacuated, leak-checked, and recharged with the correct type and amount of refrigerant. This work should be performed by a qualified technician with the appropriate recovery and charging equipment, both for system performance and to comply with refrigerant handling regulations.
