Kenworth W990 Grille Guards

Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth W990 Grille Guards

Will a grille guard fit my Kenworth W990 without modifications?

Grille guards designed specifically for the Kenworth W990 are built to match the truck's frame and grille dimensions, so they typically bolt on using existing mounting points. However, fitment can vary slightly depending on the model year and whether your truck has factory add-ons like brush guards or sensor packages, so it's a good idea to confirm compatibility with your specific configuration before ordering.

What materials are these grille guards made from, and how do they hold up over time?

Most grille guards for the W990 are constructed from stainless steel or heavy-gauge steel with a chrome or powder-coated finish. Stainless steel options generally resist corrosion better and maintain their shine with minimal upkeep, while painted or coated steel guards offer durability at a lower cost but may require more attention to prevent rust in harsh weather or road conditions.

Can I install a grille guard myself, or should I have it professionally installed?

Many grille guards come with the necessary brackets and hardware for a direct bolt-on installation, which experienced DIYers can often complete with basic tools. That said, because the guard mounts near critical components like the grille, lights, and sometimes the hood latch, some drivers prefer professional installation to ensure proper alignment and secure fitment.

Does adding a grille guard affect access to the engine or airflow to the radiator?

Quality grille guards are designed with open frame styles that allow adequate airflow to the radiator and don't typically restrict routine engine access. Still, it's worth checking the specific design of the guard you're considering, as heavier or more solid guard styles can reduce visibility and airflow slightly compared to a more open, tubular design.

Will a grille guard interfere with my truck's lights, sensors, or DOT compliance?

Most grille guards are designed to work around factory lighting and sensor locations, but placement can vary by brand and style. If your W990 is equipped with radar-based safety systems, adaptive cruise control, or specific lighting configurations, check that the guard you select won't obstruct these components, as this can affect both functionality and compliance with DOT regulations.
