Kenworth W990 Winter Fronts & Bug Screens

Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth W990 Winter Fronts & Bug Screens

What is the difference between a winter front and a bug screen?

A winter front is a solid or semi-solid cover that mounts over the grille to block cold air from reaching the radiator and engine, helping the truck maintain proper operating temperature in cold weather. A bug screen is a mesh or perforated cover designed to keep insects and road debris out of the grille while still allowing airflow for cooling. Some products combine both functions, offering adjustable coverage for different seasons.

Will a winter front or bug screen fit my Kenworth W990 without modification?

Products listed in this category are designed to fit the Kenworth W990 grille configuration, typically using existing mounting points or included hardware such as clips, magnets, or straps. Always check the specific product description for confirmation of year and grille style compatibility, since minor differences in trim packages can affect fitment.

How do I install a winter front or bug screen on my truck?

Most winter fronts and bug screens are designed for straightforward installation without permanent modification to the truck. Common mounting methods include magnetic strips, snap fasteners, or hook-and-loop attachments that secure the cover directly to the grille or hood. Installation typically takes a short amount of time and does not require special tools, though you should always follow the manufacturer's included instructions for the specific product you purchase.

Can I drive with a winter front installed year-round, or should it be removed in warmer months?

Winter fronts are intended for cold weather use and should generally be removed or opened once temperatures rise, since restricting airflow in warm conditions can cause the engine to run hotter than normal. Many winter fronts include roll-up or removable panels so drivers can adjust airflow as temperatures change throughout the season. Bug screens, on the other hand, are typically left in place year-round since they allow continuous airflow.

What materials are these winter fronts and bug screens made from, and how durable are they?

Winter fronts are commonly made from heavy-duty vinyl, canvas, or insulated fabric, while bug screens are typically constructed from durable mesh, expanded metal, or perforated aluminum. Material choice affects both durability and airflow, so consider your typical driving conditions and climate when choosing a product. Look at the product description for specific material details, as options vary by manufacturer and style.
