Peterbilt 589 Fuel Tank Brackets & Straps

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 589 Fuel Tank Brackets & Straps

What is the purpose of fuel tank brackets and straps?

Fuel tank brackets and straps are the mounting hardware that secures your fuel tank to the frame rails of your Peterbilt 589. Brackets provide the structural mounting points while straps wrap around the tank to hold it firmly in place, preventing movement, vibration damage, and wear from road conditions.

Will these brackets and straps fit my Peterbilt 589 without modification?

Products listed in this category are designed to match the fuel tank mounting configuration used on the Peterbilt 589. That said, tank size, mounting position, and cab configuration can vary between trucks, so it is important to check the listed specifications, tank diameter, and part numbers against your existing setup before ordering to confirm a proper fit.

What materials are these brackets and straps made from, and how well do they hold up?

Fuel tank brackets are typically made from steel for strength and durability, while straps are commonly steel or a coated steel designed to resist stretching and fatigue under constant vibration. Many parts feature a protective finish such as paint or plating to help resist rust and corrosion from road salt, moisture, and general exposure.

Can I replace just the straps, or do I need to replace the brackets too?

In many cases, straps wear out or stretch before the brackets do, so it is common to replace just the straps if the brackets are still structurally sound and free of cracks, rust-through, or deformation. However, if the brackets show signs of damage, fatigue, or corrosion, replacing both at the same time is recommended to ensure your fuel tank stays securely mounted.

How do I know if my current brackets or straps need to be replaced?

Common signs include visible rust or corrosion, cracked or bent brackets, stretched or loose straps that no longer hold the tank snugly, unusual movement or shifting of the tank while driving, and audible rattling or vibration noise coming from the tank area. If you notice any of these issues, it is best to inspect and replace the affected hardware before it leads to further damage or a safety concern.
