Peterbilt 386 Fuel Tank Covers & Bras

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 386 Fuel Tank Covers & Bras

What are fuel tank covers and bras used for on a Peterbilt 386?

Fuel tank covers and bras are protective and decorative accessories that fit over or around the fuel tanks on your Peterbilt 386. They help shield the tank surface from road debris, rust, and minor scratches while giving the truck a customized, finished look.

Will these covers fit my specific fuel tank size?

Fuel tank covers and bras are typically designed to match specific tank diameters and lengths, so it is important to measure your existing tank or check your truck's specifications before ordering. Many options are available in various sizes to accommodate the different tank configurations found on the Peterbilt 386.

What materials are these covers made from, and how do they hold up over time?

Most fuel tank covers and bras are made from durable materials such as stainless steel or heavy-duty vinyl and fabric blends, depending on the style. Stainless steel options offer long-term durability and a polished look, while fabric or vinyl bras provide flexible protection and are often easier to remove for tank access or maintenance.

How difficult is it to install a fuel tank cover or bra?

Installation difficulty varies by product type. Fabric and vinyl bras generally strap or snap into place without tools, making them simple for most owner-operators to install at home. Metal covers may require basic hand tools and mounting hardware, and some drivers prefer having a shop assist to ensure a secure, even fit.

Do fuel tank covers interfere with tank access for fueling or maintenance?

Quality fuel tank covers and bras are designed with cutouts or openings for fuel caps, drain valves, and gauges so they do not interfere with normal fueling or maintenance tasks. Always double check product listings or measurements to confirm the cover you choose leaves necessary access points uncovered.
