Peterbilt 386 Frame Light Bars & Filler Panels

Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 386 Frame Light Bars & Filler Panels

What are frame light bars and filler panels used for on a Peterbilt 386?

Frame light bars and filler panels mount along the frame rail between the cab and the rear axle or fuel tanks, closing gaps in the chassis while providing a mounting location for marker lights, flood lights, or ID lights. They serve both a cosmetic purpose, giving the truck a finished, streamlined look, and a functional purpose by adding auxiliary lighting along the frame.

Will a frame light bar or filler panel fit my specific Peterbilt 386 configuration?

Fit can vary depending on wheelbase, fuel tank size and spacing, and whether your truck has factory or aftermarket tanks already installed. Most panels are designed to fit common 386 configurations, but we recommend checking the listed measurements and tank spacing against your truck before ordering. If you are unsure, contacting our team with your truck's specs helps confirm the correct fit.

What materials and finishes are available for these panels?

These panels are typically offered in stainless steel or aluminum. Stainless steel options are common for their durability and resistance to corrosion, and are available in polished, brushed, or diamond plate finishes depending on the style you choose. Aluminum panels are lighter weight but still offer a clean, long-lasting appearance when properly maintained.

Do these panels come with pre-drilled holes for lights, and are the lights included?

Many frame light bars come pre-drilled or pre-cut for a specific light configuration, such as round or rectangular LED lights, but the lights themselves are often sold separately unless the listing specifically states they are included. Always check the product description to confirm hole placement, light size compatibility, and whether wiring or grommets are included.

What is involved in installing a frame light bar or filler panel?

Installation generally involves bolting or clamping the panel to existing frame rail mounting points, and running wiring for any lights back to the truck's electrical system. Some panels may require minor drilling if your truck's mounting holes do not already align. Basic hand tools are usually sufficient, but a second set of hands can help when positioning longer panels along the frame.
