International 9900/i/ix Grille Guards

Frequently Asked Questions About International 9900/i/ix Grille Guards

Will a grille guard for the International 9900/i/ix fit my truck exactly, or will I need to modify it?

Grille guards in this category are designed to match the front-end contours of the International 9900, 9900i, and 9900ix models. Because these trucks can vary slightly by year and cab configuration, it is a good idea to confirm your truck's exact model and year against the fitment notes listed on each product page before ordering. Most guards are built for a direct bolt-on fit, but minor adjustments are sometimes needed depending on other front-end accessories already installed, such as lighting brackets or a non-factory bumper.

What material are these grille guards made from, and how do the finish options differ?

Grille guards for this category are typically constructed from steel or stainless steel tubing. Steel guards are usually finished with a durable powder coat to resist rust and everyday wear, while stainless steel options offer a brighter, polished look with strong corrosion resistance for drivers who want a lower-maintenance finish. Your choice mainly comes down to preferred appearance and how much upkeep you're willing to do to keep the finish looking new.

Can I install a grille guard myself, or should I have it professionally installed?

Many grille guards are designed for bolt-on installation using the truck's existing mounting points, and customers with basic mechanical tools and experience often install them without issue. That said, because the guard attaches to the front structure of the truck and can be heavy and awkward to position alone, having a second person or a shop assist with alignment and torque specs is a smart way to ensure a secure, properly fitted installation.

Will a grille guard interfere with my truck's lights, sensors, or airflow to the radiator?

Grille guards are built with openings that allow airflow to the radiator and typically leave clearance for factory headlights and turn signals. If your truck is equipped with aftermarket sensors, a front-mounted camera, or additional lighting, check the product's design and any included mounting provisions to confirm there won't be interference. Some guards include tabs or brackets specifically for mounting auxiliary lights, which can help you integrate accessories cleanly.

Do these grille guards affect DOT compliance or bumper height regulations?

Because a grille guard mounts in front of the truck's existing bumper and grille rather than replacing them, it generally does not alter the truck's certified bumper height or DOT-required lighting placement. However, regulations can vary by state and by how the guard is installed, so it's worth double-checking that any lights or reflectors on your truck remain visible and unobstructed after installation, and confirming compliance with your fleet's or local jurisdiction's specific requirements.
