Why Use Semi Truck Bumper Guides?
The edge of the front bumper is hard to see from the driverâs seat. Bumper guides extend that line of sight to protect the
semi-truck bumper edges from scrapes and dings when maneuvering the truck. It's a useful visual aid to mark where the bumperâs ends are. Some assemblies feature LED lighting or reflective lenses for better nighttime visibility and added personalization.
How to Choose a Bumper Guide for Your Truck
Before You Buy, Consider These Factors: : lighting style, mounting style (clamp-on vs drill-mount), matching height/offset, bumper type (fiberglass or steel) and shape, then confirm the rod diameter size and preferred cap/top style.
Bumper Guide Brands: For a practical, application-specific fitment, including an exact-fit rod length, bend/offset, and bumper style, consider buying Boresâ 304-stainless steel bumper guides. Bores also has bumper guide rebuild kits and service parts. Grand General delivers a custom-truck look and has classic 7/8-inch x 49-inch and 1-inch x 51-inch configurations for traditional bumper guide setups.
Sizes: For medium-duty short-profile front ends, there are 42-inch guides. 48-inch guides are far more common on Class 8 rigs. 49- and 51-inch guides are great options for drivers who need stronger sightlines on long-nose or wide-front trucks.
Top Covers: Need unique novelty caps and tops? United Pacific has a wide variety of styles to choose from.
Remember: If youâre buying a bumper guide top cover, it must be the right diameter to match the guide rod.
How to Install a Bumper Guide
1. Check Clearance: Confirm you have the correct brackets and offset curve for your bumper. Open the hood fully to ensure it wonât hit the guide.
2. Position the Clamps: Slide the C-clamps into place. Leave a small amount of clearance for the bumper. Set the guide loosely on the bumper.
3. Align the Guide: Rotate and adjust until it sits straight. Keep the clamps evenly spaced.
4. Tighten the Hardware: Use a 9/16" and 1-1/16" wrench to secure the bolts. You can apply Loctite gel bond to prevent loosening from road vibration.
5. Wire the LEDs (If Equipped): Run the wire under the bumper. Tap into the running light circuit using a splicer.
6. Test the Light: If the LED doesnât turn on, remove the bulb. Rotate it 180 degrees. Reinstall and test again.
