Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth W900A Deck Plates & Air Line Boxes
What years and models are these deck plates compatible with?
Our deck plates and air line boxes are specifically designed for Kenworth W900A models from 1961 to 1985. These parts will also fit W900B models (1982-1987) as they share the same mounting dimensions. However, they are not compatible with newer W900L or W900 models from 1988 onward due to different frame rail spacing and mounting configurations. Always verify your truck's model year and VIN before ordering to ensure proper fitment.
Are these deck plates made from stainless steel or aluminum, and which is better for my application?
We offer both materials depending on the specific product. Stainless steel deck plates (typically 16 or 18 gauge) provide superior durability and corrosion resistance, making them ideal for trucks exposed to road salt or harsh weather conditions. Aluminum options are lighter weight and resist corrosion naturally, but may show wear faster under heavy use. For working trucks, we recommend stainless steel. For show trucks where weight is a concern, aluminum works well. Check individual product descriptions for material specifications.
Do I need to drill new holes or modify my frame to install these deck plates?
Most of our deck plates are designed to use existing factory mounting holes on W900A frames, requiring no drilling or modifications. However, if your truck has aftermarket modifications or previous non-standard installations, some adjustment may be necessary. Each deck plate comes with mounting hardware and typically installs using 3/8" or 1/2" bolts through pre-drilled holes. Installation usually takes 1-2 hours per side with basic hand tools. We recommend checking your frame for existing hole patterns before ordering.
What's the difference between standard and extended deck plates, and which do I need?
Standard deck plates typically measure 24" to 36" in length and cover the area between the cab and sleeper or first axle. Extended deck plates range from 48" to 72" and are designed for trucks with larger gaps between components or those wanting additional storage space for chains, straps, or equipment. Measure the distance from the back of your cab to where you want the plate to end. Extended plates are popular for owner-operators who need extra tool storage access.
Can I mount LED lights or additional accessories to these deck plates?
Yes, most of our deck plates can accommodate additional accessories. Stainless steel plates can be drilled for mounting lights, air horns, or tool boxes, though we recommend using a step drill bit and cutting oil to prevent material damage. Many plates come with pre-punched knockouts for common light sizes (2" or 4" round). Air line boxes typically include provisions for gladhand holders and electrical connections. Always ensure any modifications maintain structural integrity and don't interfere with air lines or electrical routing.
