Frequently Asked Questions About Ford F600-F700 Truck Fuel Tank Brackets & Straps

What years and models of Ford F600-F700 trucks do these fuel tank brackets and straps fit?

Our fuel tank brackets and straps are designed to fit Ford F600 and F700 medium-duty trucks from 1980 through 2003. However, there were several tank configurations during these years, including 25-gallon, 35-gallon, and 50-gallon options. Before ordering, check your tank size and mounting style - side-mounted tanks use different brackets than frame-rail mounted tanks. If you're unsure about compatibility, measure your existing bracket length and mounting hole spacing, or contact us with your VIN for verification.

Are these brackets made from galvanized steel or will they rust quickly?

Most of our fuel tank brackets are manufactured from heavy-duty steel with either a black powder coat finish or zinc plating for corrosion resistance. The straps typically feature a galvanized coating. While these finishes provide good protection, we recommend applying additional rust prevention spray in areas with heavy road salt use. For maximum longevity, some customers choose to apply rubberized undercoating after installation. Expected lifespan is 8-12 years under normal conditions.

Can I install these brackets myself or do I need special tools?

Installation can be completed by a competent DIY mechanic with basic tools including socket wrenches, jack stands, and potentially a floor jack to support the tank. The most challenging part is safely supporting the fuel tank while removing old brackets - never attempt this with a full tank. Plan for 2-3 hours of work. You'll need a helper to position the tank while securing new brackets. Some installations may require minor drilling to align mounting holes, especially on trucks with frame modifications or aftermarket tanks.

Why are there different strap lengths listed, and how do I know which one I need?

Strap length varies based on your tank size and mounting configuration. Standard 25-gallon tanks typically use 44-inch straps, while 35-gallon tanks need 48-inch straps, and 50-gallon tanks require 52-inch or longer straps. Measure your existing strap from end to end, including the hooks. If your straps are broken, measure the circumference of your tank and add 8 inches for proper fitment. Dual tank setups may require different lengths for inboard versus outboard tanks.

Will aftermarket brackets affect my truck's payload capacity or DOT compliance?

Our replacement brackets meet or exceed OEM specifications for weight capacity and are DOT compliant when properly installed. They're tested to support the full weight of loaded fuel tanks plus a safety margin. However, ensure all mounting bolts are torqued to specification (typically 65-75 ft-lbs for bracket-to-frame bolts). For commercial use, document the installation date and part numbers for inspection records. These brackets maintain the same load ratings as factory equipment and won't affect your truck's certified GVWR.
