Frequently Asked Questions About Mack Superliner Truck Deck Plates & Air Line Boxes
Will these deck plates fit my specific year model Mack Superliner?
Our deck plates are designed to fit Mack Superliner models from 1977 through 2001. However, there were minor variations in mounting hole patterns between early models (1977-1984) and later models (1985-2001). Before ordering, we recommend measuring your existing mounting holes or contacting our support team with your truck's VIN for exact fitment verification. Most deck plates come with adjustable mounting brackets to accommodate these variations.
What material are these deck plates made from, and how thick are they?
We offer deck plates in two primary materials: mirror-polished 304 stainless steel (16 gauge/1.5mm thick) and diamond plate aluminum (3/16" or 4.8mm thick). The stainless steel options provide superior corrosion resistance and maintain their shine longer, while aluminum plates are lighter weight and easier to drill if custom modifications are needed. Both materials are significantly more durable than the factory plastic or thin metal plates.
Do I need to remove my bumper or other components to install these deck plates?
Most deck plate installations can be completed without removing the bumper. You'll typically need to access the area behind the bumper through the wheel wells or from underneath the truck. Air line boxes may require partial bumper loosening for proper alignment. Basic hand tools are sufficient for installation, though a drill may be needed if your mounting holes don't align perfectly. Installation typically takes 1-2 hours per side.
Are the air line boxes functional or just decorative?
Our air line boxes are fully functional and include proper fittings for standard 1/2" air lines. Each box features weather-sealed hinged doors with either spring-loaded or magnetic closures. The interior compartments are designed to accommodate standard glad hand connections and up to 15 feet of coiled air hose. Drainage holes prevent water accumulation, and rubber gaskets ensure a weatherproof seal.
What's the difference between OEM-style and custom deck plates?
OEM-style deck plates replicate the original factory dimensions and mounting patterns, making them direct bolt-on replacements. Custom deck plates offer enhanced coverage area (typically 2-3 inches wider), decorative cutouts, LED light provisions, or integrated step plates. Custom options may require minor drilling but provide a more personalized appearance. Both styles maintain the same material quality and finish standards.
