Mack CX Truck Torque Rods & U-Bolts

Frequently Asked Questions About Mack CX Truck Torque Rods & U-Bolts

What year models of Mack CX trucks do these torque rods and U-bolts fit?

Our torque rods and U-bolts are designed to fit Mack CX Vision trucks manufactured from 2001 to 2015. However, there can be variations based on axle configurations and suspension types. We recommend checking your truck's VIN or calling our technical support team at 1-888-875-2596 with your specific model details to ensure proper fitment before ordering.

Are these torque rods greaseable, and how often should they be serviced?

Most of our Mack CX torque rods feature greaseable bushings with standard grease fittings. For optimal performance and longevity, we recommend greasing them every 10,000-15,000 miles or during regular chassis lubrication intervals. Non-greaseable options with sealed bushings are also available for maintenance-free operation, though they typically have a shorter service life of 150,000-200,000 miles versus 300,000+ for properly maintained greaseable units.

What grade and coating options are available for the U-bolts?

We stock Grade 8 U-bolts with either black oxide or zinc plating finishes. The Grade 8 rating ensures a minimum tensile strength of 150,000 PSI, suitable for heavy-duty applications. Black oxide provides good corrosion resistance for mild environments, while zinc plating offers superior protection in harsh conditions. All U-bolts come with deep nuts and hardened washers included.

Can I replace torque rods individually, or should I replace them in sets?

While individual torque rod replacement is possible, we strongly recommend replacing them in axle sets (both sides) to maintain proper suspension geometry and prevent uneven wear. Mismatched torque rods can cause driveline vibration, premature tire wear, and alignment issues. If budget is a concern, at minimum replace both rods on the same axle position.

What torque specifications should I use when installing these components?

For U-bolts on Mack CX trucks, torque to 450-500 ft-lbs in a cross pattern, retorquing after 50-100 miles. Torque rod mounting bolts typically require 250-300 ft-lbs for the frame brackets and 350-400 ft-lbs for the axle connections. Always use a calibrated torque wrench and follow the specific values in your truck's service manual, as specifications can vary by suspension type and model year.
