Frequently Asked Questions About Mack CV/GU Truck Grille Guards
Will these grille guards fit my specific Mack CV713 or Granite model year?
Our Mack CV/GU grille guards are designed to fit CV713 models from 2000-2019 and Granite (GU) models from 2002-present. However, fitment can vary based on your truck's specific configuration, including headlight style and bumper type. We recommend checking your truck's VIN and model specifications before ordering. If you're unsure, contact our customer service team with your truck's details for verification.
What gauge steel are these grille guards made from, and will they rust?
Most of our Mack CV/GU grille guards are constructed from heavy-duty 16-gauge steel tubing with reinforced mounting brackets. All guards come with either a chrome-plated finish or powder-coated finish for rust protection. Chrome options provide excellent corrosion resistance but require regular cleaning, while powder-coated guards offer superior chip resistance. For maximum longevity in harsh conditions, we recommend applying touch-up paint to any chips or scratches immediately.
Do I need to drill into my bumper or frame to install these guards?
Installation requirements vary by model. Many of our grille guards use existing bumper mounting points and require no drilling. However, some heavy-duty models may require drilling 2-4 holes for additional support brackets. Each guard comes with detailed installation instructions specifying exact requirements. Installation typically takes 2-3 hours with basic hand tools, though professional installation is recommended for models requiring frame modifications.
Can I still access my hood and perform regular maintenance with the grille guard installed?
Yes, our grille guards are designed to maintain full hood access and won't interfere with routine maintenance. The guards sit forward of the hood latch and allow complete hood opening. You can still check fluids, change filters, and access the engine compartment normally. Some models feature removable center sections for easier access to specific components if needed.
What's the difference between the ali arc, texas square, and prowler styles?
The Ali Arc features curved horizontal tubes for a classic look and maximum front-end protection. The Texas Square uses straight horizontal bars with a more aggressive, angular appearance and typically includes headlight guards. The Prowler style combines both curved and straight elements with additional vertical supports for heavy-duty applications. All styles offer comparable protection, so selection often comes down to personal preference and your truck's intended use.
