Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth T880 Cab, Sleeper & Cowl Panels
What years and models do these panels fit, and are there differences between day cab and sleeper configurations?
Our Kenworth T880 panels are designed to fit model years 2013 to present. However, there are distinct differences between day cab and sleeper configurations. Day cab panels are typically shorter and have different mounting points compared to sleeper cab versions. When ordering, you'll need to specify your exact configuration, including whether you have a 52-inch, 76-inch, or extended sleeper. Some cowl panels are universal between configurations, but cab corner panels and sleeper extensions are specific to your truck's setup.
What material options are available, and which holds up best against rust and road salt?
We offer panels in three main materials: 16-gauge steel, 304 stainless steel, and aluminum. For maximum corrosion resistance in harsh winter conditions, 304 stainless steel is the premium choice, offering excellent protection against road salt and chemicals. Aluminum panels provide good corrosion resistance at a lighter weight but may show more wear from debris impact. Standard steel panels are the most economical but require proper preparation and regular maintenance to prevent rust, especially in salt-heavy regions.
Can I install these panels myself, or do I need professional help?
Most cab and cowl panels can be installed by experienced DIY mechanics with standard shop tools. Basic installations typically require a drill, rivet gun, and standard hand tools. However, sleeper panels often involve more complex fitting and may require cutting or modification of existing brackets. We recommend professional installation for sleeper extensions or if you're replacing multiple panels simultaneously. Installation typically takes 2-4 hours per panel, depending on complexity and whether you're working with existing mounting holes or creating new ones.
Do these panels come with mounting hardware, and what additional parts might I need?
Most panels come with basic mounting hardware including rivets or bolts for standard applications. However, you may need additional items depending on your specific installation: weather stripping or sealing foam for proper fitment, primer and paint for steel panels, replacement clips or brackets if yours are damaged, and drilling templates for accurate hole placement. We recommend ordering mounting kits specific to your panel type to ensure you have everything needed for installation.
Will aftermarket panels affect my warranty or resale value?
Replacing damaged or worn panels with quality aftermarket parts typically maintains or can even improve your truck's resale value, especially if OEM panels are rusted or damaged. These panels are designed to OEM specifications and won't void your warranty when properly installed. However, we recommend keeping documentation of the installation and using panels that match your truck's original configuration. For lease returns, check your lease agreement as some companies require OEM replacement parts.
