Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth T600 Air Tanks, Wraps & Mounting
What years does the Kenworth T600 air tank mounting hardware fit?
Our air tank mounting brackets and hardware are designed to fit Kenworth T600 models from 1984 through 2007. The mounting points remained consistent throughout the T600 production run, so the same brackets work across all model years. However, always verify your specific frame rail width and existing mounting hole patterns before ordering, as some custom configurations may vary.
Will aftermarket air tank wraps affect my air system performance or cause overheating?
Quality air tank wraps and covers will not affect air system performance when properly installed. Our wraps are designed with ventilation in mind and use materials that allow proper heat dissipation. Stainless steel and aluminum wraps actually help protect tanks from road debris and corrosion while maintaining safe operating temperatures. Just ensure you leave the recommended 1/4 inch gap around fittings and valves for proper airflow.
How difficult is it to install replacement air tanks without removing the cab?
Most T600 air tank replacements can be completed without cab removal, though access can be tight. You'll need to disconnect air lines, remove the mounting straps, and work the tank out at an angle. The driver side tank typically requires removing the battery box for clearance. Plan for 2-3 hours per tank if you're working alone. Having a second person helps significantly when maneuvering tanks in and out of position.
What's the difference between polished aluminum and stainless steel tank wraps?
Polished aluminum wraps are lighter (about 40% less weight than stainless) and less expensive, but require more frequent polishing to maintain their shine. Stainless steel wraps cost more upfront but maintain their appearance with minimal maintenance and resist pitting better in harsh winter conditions. Both offer excellent protection, so the choice typically comes down to your maintenance preferences and budget.
Do I need special mounting brackets when upgrading to larger capacity air tanks?
If you're upgrading from standard 11-inch diameter tanks to 13-inch tanks, you will need new mounting brackets and possibly longer mounting straps. The frame mounting points remain the same, but the larger diameter requires brackets with greater offset. Our universal T600 mounting kits include adjustable brackets that accommodate both sizes. Always check clearance to nearby components like exhaust pipes and crossmembers before installing larger tanks.
