Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth Cabover Tilt, Trailer & Signal Handles
What year models do these handles fit, and how do I know if they're compatible with my Kenworth cabover?
Our Kenworth cabover handles are designed to fit K100, K100E, and W900A models from 1963 through 1990. The best way to ensure compatibility is to check your truck's model designation and year on the driver's door jamb sticker. If you're unsure, measure your existing handle mounting holes - standard spacing is typically 3.5 inches center-to-center for tilt handles and 2.75 inches for signal handles. You can also contact us with your VIN for verification.
Are these handles made from chrome-plated steel or plastic, and how durable are they compared to OEM?
Most of our Kenworth cabover handles are manufactured from die-cast zinc alloy with triple chrome plating or heavy-duty steel construction, depending on the specific model. These materials match or exceed OEM specifications for durability. The chrome plating process includes copper, nickel, and chrome layers for corrosion resistance. Plastic handles are clearly marked in the product description and are typically used only for interior applications where weight reduction is beneficial.
What tools do I need for installation, and can I install these myself without professional help?
Installation typically requires basic hand tools: a Phillips head screwdriver, 7/16" and 1/2" wrenches, and potentially a drill with 1/4" bit if mounting new holes. Most handles install in 15-30 minutes using existing mounting points. The tilt handles require access behind the grille panel, which involves removing 4-6 screws. Signal handles mount directly through the door panel. We recommend having a second person assist with alignment during installation. Detailed instructions are included with each handle.
What's the difference between the standard and deluxe handle styles you offer?
Standard handles feature a basic chrome finish with smooth or ribbed grips and traditional styling that matches original equipment. Deluxe handles include additional features such as jeweled accents, custom engraving options, extended grip lengths (typically 1-2 inches longer), and heavier chrome plating (up to 50% thicker). Deluxe models also often include stainless steel hardware instead of zinc-plated bolts. Both styles maintain the same mounting specifications for easy replacement.
Do these handles come with mounting hardware, and what about the springs and cables for tilt mechanisms?
All handles include the necessary mounting bolts, washers, and nuts for installation. However, tilt mechanism springs, cables, and linkage components are sold separately as these wear items vary by truck configuration. Signal handles include the basic pivot hardware but not the internal door latch mechanisms. We recommend inspecting your existing springs and cables during handle replacement - if they show signs of fraying, stretching, or corrosion, it's best to replace them simultaneously to avoid future issues.
