Kenworth Cabover Deck Plates & Air Line Boxes
Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth Cabover Deck Plates & Air Line Boxes
What years and models of Kenworth cabovers are these deck plates compatible with?
Our deck plates and air line boxes are designed to fit Kenworth K100, K100E, and K123 cabover models from 1963 through 1987. The most common fitments are for the K100E models from the 1970s and early 1980s. Always verify your specific truck's measurements before ordering, as some custom modifications to older trucks may affect fitment. If you're unsure about compatibility, contact us with your VIN or truck specifications.
Are these deck plates made from aluminum or stainless steel, and which material is better?
We offer both diamond plate aluminum and stainless steel options. Aluminum deck plates are lighter weight (approximately 40% lighter than steel), resist corrosion naturally, and are easier to polish. Stainless steel deck plates offer superior durability, better resistance to road chemicals, and maintain their finish longer but cost more. For trucks in northern climates with heavy salt exposure, stainless steel is recommended. For show trucks or mild climate use, aluminum provides excellent appearance at a lower cost.
Do I need to drill new holes for installation, and what tools are required?
Most of our deck plates utilize existing factory mounting points, so drilling is typically not required. Installation requires basic hand tools including a socket set, screwdrivers, and possibly a rivet gun for some air line box installations. The process usually takes 2-3 hours for a complete set. Some customers report needing to slightly enlarge existing holes on trucks with heavy rust or previous modifications. We include detailed instructions with measurements and recommend test-fitting before final installation.
What's the difference between standard and deluxe air line box styles?
Standard air line boxes feature a basic rectangular design with a single compartment for air lines and electrical connections. Deluxe models include divided compartments, rubber grommets for line protection, drainage holes, and often feature decorative trim or polished finishes. Deluxe boxes also typically have reinforced mounting brackets and weather seals. The deluxe option is worth the extra cost if you frequently access your lines or want a cleaner, more organized appearance.
Will these deck plates support the weight of a person standing on them during maintenance?
Our deck plates are designed as decorative covers and light-duty step assistance, supporting up to 300 pounds of distributed weight. They are not intended as primary work platforms. The aluminum plates are 3/16" thick and stainless options are 14-gauge, both reinforced with support ribs. For regular maintenance work where you'll be standing on the deck, we recommend adding supplemental support brackets or choosing our heavy-duty commercial grade options designed specifically for frequent foot traffic.
