Frequently Asked Questions About International S2100-S2300 Fuel Tank Covers & Bras
Will these fuel tank covers fit my specific International S2100 or S2300 model year?
Our fuel tank covers are designed to fit International S2100 and S2300 models from 1989 through 2007. However, tank configurations can vary based on wheelbase and tank size (typically 50-150 gallon capacities). Before ordering, verify your tank diameter and step configuration. Most S2100/S2300 trucks use either 23" or 25" diameter tanks. If you're unsure, measure from the bottom of your tank to the top, excluding the mounting brackets.
What's the difference between vinyl and stainless steel fuel tank covers?
Vinyl covers are lightweight, cost-effective options that protect against minor road debris and UV damage. They typically last 3-5 years with proper care and are easier to install. Stainless steel covers offer superior durability, lasting 10+ years, and provide better protection against impacts and harsh weather. Stainless options weigh more (approximately 15-25 lbs per cover) and require more secure mounting but offer a premium appearance and better long-term value.
How difficult is the installation process, and what tools do I need?
Installation typically takes 30-45 minutes per tank. For vinyl covers, you'll need adjustable straps (usually included) and basic hand tools. Stainless steel covers require drilling 3-4 mounting holes per cover using a 3/8" drill bit, plus stainless steel bolts and lock washers. Some drivers prefer using existing tank strap holes to avoid drilling. Always ensure at least 1/2" clearance between the cover and tank to prevent rubbing and allow for proper ventilation.
Do these covers work with tanks that have DEF tanks or auxiliary equipment mounted?
Standard covers are designed for basic tank configurations. If your S2100/S2300 has DEF tanks, hydraulic reservoirs, or toolboxes mounted on the tank steps, you'll need modified or notched covers. Many covers can be trimmed on-site for minor obstructions, but complex setups may require custom options. Measure clearances carefully - you need at least 2 inches between any auxiliary equipment and the cover edge.
How do I maintain these covers to prevent rust or deterioration?
For stainless steel covers, wash monthly with mild soap and water, then apply a stainless steel polish every 3-4 months to maintain shine and prevent pitting. Check mounting hardware quarterly for looseness or corrosion. Vinyl covers should be cleaned with vinyl protectant spray monthly and inspected for tears or loose straps. In winter climates, remove salt buildup immediately to prevent accelerated wear. Replace vinyl straps annually if they show signs of dry rot or stretching.
