International S1700-S1900 Tilt-Trailer-Signal Hand
Frequently Asked Questions About International S1700-S1900 Tilt-Trailer-Signal Handles
Will these signal handles fit my specific International truck model and year?
These tilt-trailer-signal handles are designed specifically for International S1700 through S1900 series trucks manufactured from 1979 to 2004. They are direct replacements for OEM part numbers including 3541228C91 and 3541229C91. Before ordering, verify your truck's model number on the door jamb sticker and confirm it falls within the S1700-S1900 range. These handles will not fit International 4000 series or newer WorkStar models.
What material are these handles made from, and how durable are they?
Our replacement signal handles are manufactured from heavy-duty chrome-plated zinc alloy or stainless steel, depending on the specific part number you select. The chrome-plated versions feature a triple-layer chrome process for corrosion resistance, while stainless steel options provide maximum durability in harsh weather conditions. Both materials are significantly more robust than the original plastic handles that commonly crack or break.
Do I need any special tools or experience to install these handles?
Installation typically requires basic hand tools including a Phillips screwdriver, 10mm and 13mm sockets, and possibly a trim removal tool. Most customers complete the installation in 30-45 minutes per side. You'll need to remove the interior door panel to access the mounting bolts. The handles include new mounting hardware, but you'll reuse your existing wiring harness. No cutting or modifications are required for standard installations.
Are both left and right handles the same, or do I need to order specific sides?
Left and right tilt-trailer-signal handles are different and side-specific. The lever mechanisms and mounting points are mirrored, so you must order the correct side for your application. When determining which side you need, remember that left and right are identified as if you're sitting in the driver's seat. We recommend replacing both handles at the same time to ensure matching appearance and wear patterns.
Will these handles work with my existing trailer brake controller and turn signals?
Yes, these replacement handles are designed to work with all factory-installed trailer brake controllers and turn signal systems on S1700-S1900 trucks. They maintain the same electrical connections and switching functions as your original handles. The integrated switches for trailer brakes and turn signals use the same wiring connectors, so no electrical modifications are needed. If your current handles are working electrically but are physically damaged, these replacements will restore full functionality.
