Frequently Asked Questions About International RH Tilt, Trailer & Signal Handles
Will these handles fit my specific International truck model and year?
These handles are designed to fit International trucks with RH (right-hand) door configurations from model years 1995 through current production. They're compatible with ProStar, LoneStar, 9900i, 9200i, and 9400i models. However, we strongly recommend verifying your specific truck's configuration before ordering, as some custom cab options may require different handles. Check your door panel for the OEM part number or contact our support team with your VIN for exact fitment confirmation.
What's the difference between chrome, stainless steel, and plastic handle options?
Chrome-plated handles offer a mirror-like finish at a moderate price point but may show pitting or rust after 2-3 years of heavy use. Stainless steel handles cost more upfront but resist corrosion indefinitely and maintain their appearance with minimal maintenance. Plastic/composite handles are the most affordable and won't rust, but they may fade or become brittle after extended sun exposure. For trucks in harsh climates or coastal areas, we recommend stainless steel for maximum longevity.
Do I need any special tools or modifications to install these handles?
Installation typically requires basic hand tools including a Phillips screwdriver, 10mm and 13mm sockets, and possibly a trim removal tool. Most handles install using existing mounting holes and hardware, taking 15-30 minutes per handle. No drilling or modifications are needed for standard installations. The tilt and trailer brake handles connect to existing cables, while signal handles integrate with your turn signal switch wiring. We include installation instructions with each handle.
Why is my new handle stiff or hard to operate compared to the original?
New handles often feel stiffer than worn originals because the internal springs and mechanisms are at full tension. This is normal and actually indicates proper function. The handle will break in after approximately 50-100 uses. If stiffness persists, check that cables are properly routed without kinks and apply white lithium grease to pivot points. Excessive stiffness may indicate incorrect cable adjustment or a mismatched handle model.
Can I buy just the handle grip or internal parts instead of the complete assembly?
While complete handle assemblies ensure all components work together properly, we do stock replacement grips, springs, and internal mechanisms for most models. Rubber grip covers typically cost $15-25, while internal spring kits run $30-45. However, if your handle mechanism is worn or damaged, replacing just the grip rarely solves operational issues. For handles over 5 years old, we recommend complete replacement for reliable long-term performance.
