International HX Cab Lights
Frequently Asked Questions About International HX Cab Lights
What years and models of International HX trucks are these cab lights compatible with?
Our International HX cab lights are designed to fit 2017 and newer International HX Series trucks, including HX520, HX620, and HX615 models. These lights are specifically engineered for the HX's distinctive sloped roofline. For earlier International models like the ProStar or LoneStar, you'll need different cab light kits as the mounting points and roof angles differ significantly.
Are these cab lights made from glass or plastic lenses, and how durable are they?
Most International HX cab lights feature polycarbonate lenses rather than glass. Polycarbonate is highly impact-resistant and won't shatter like glass, making it ideal for commercial trucking applications. The housings are typically made from either heavy-duty ABS plastic or die-cast aluminum, depending on the specific model. Both materials are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, road vibration, and UV exposure without cracking or fading.
Do I need to drill holes in my cab roof to install these lights?
Yes, installing cab lights on an International HX that didn't come with them from the factory requires drilling five holes in the roof - one for each light. We strongly recommend using a template (often included with complete kits) to ensure proper spacing. The standard spacing is typically 6.25 inches center-to-center. Professional installation is advised if you're not comfortable drilling into your cab roof, as improper installation can lead to water leaks.
What LED color options are available, and are they DOT compliant?
International HX cab lights are available in amber/yellow and clear lens options. For DOT compliance, the three center lights must be amber while the two outer lights can be either amber or clear. Most of our LED cab lights meet or exceed FMVSS 108 requirements for photometric output and are SAE certified. We offer both traditional incandescent bulb styles and modern LED versions, with LEDs providing longer life and lower power consumption.
Can I replace just one damaged cab light, or do I need to buy a complete set?
Individual replacement lights are available for most International HX cab light styles, so you don't need to purchase a complete 5-piece set for a single damaged light. However, keep in mind that mixing old and new lights may result in slight color or brightness differences, especially if switching between incandescent and LED, or if your existing lights have aged. When ordering a single replacement, make sure to match the exact style (rectangular vs. round) and mounting type of your existing lights.
