Frequently Asked Questions About International 9200/9400 Tilt-Trailer-Signal Handles
Will these tilt-trailer-signal handles fit my specific International 9200 or 9400 model year?
These handles are designed to fit International 9200 and 9400 models from 1990 through 2004. The mounting pattern remained consistent across these years, making them universally compatible within this range. However, if your truck has aftermarket modifications to the dash or steering column area, we recommend measuring your existing handle mounting points before ordering. The standard mounting distance is 2.75 inches center-to-center.
What material are these handles made from, and how long will they last?
Our tilt-trailer-signal handles are manufactured from heavy-duty chrome-plated steel or high-impact ABS plastic, depending on the style you choose. The chrome-plated steel versions feature a triple-chrome plating process that resists corrosion and maintains its shine even after years of use. The ABS plastic handles are UV-stabilized to prevent fading and cracking. Most customers report 5-10 years of reliable service under normal operating conditions.
How difficult is the installation, and what tools will I need?
Installation typically takes 30-45 minutes and requires basic hand tools: a Phillips screwdriver, 10mm socket wrench, and possibly a trim removal tool. You'll need to remove the steering column cover (usually 4-6 screws), disconnect the old handle's wiring connector, and reverse the process with the new handle. The electrical connector is plug-and-play with no cutting or splicing required. Many customers complete this job in their driveway without professional help.
What styles and finishes are available, and which one matches my interior best?
We offer four main styles: Classic Chrome (mirror finish), Black Powder Coat (matte black finish), OEM-Style Gray (matches factory interior), and Custom Billet Aluminum (polished or brushed finish). The OEM-Style Gray is the most popular choice for maintaining a factory appearance. For trucks with custom interiors, the Chrome and Billet options add a premium touch. All styles maintain the same functionality and mounting specifications.
Why is my turn signal canceling incorrectly after installing the new handle?
Improper signal canceling usually occurs when the handle's cam isn't properly aligned with the steering column's canceling mechanism during installation. To fix this, ensure the steering wheel is perfectly straight, then install the handle with the turn signal lever in the neutral (center) position. The canceling cam has alignment marks that must match up with the column's indicators. If problems persist, check that you've purchased the correct handle for your specific column type (tilt vs. non-tilt).
