Frequently Asked Questions About International 4700-4900 Frame Light Bars & Filler Panels
What years and models of International 4700-4900 trucks are these light bars compatible with?
These frame light bars and filler panels are designed to fit International 4700, 4800, and 4900 model trucks manufactured from 1989 through 2002. The mounting brackets align with the factory frame rail holes on these specific models. If your truck has been modified with a custom bumper or has frame damage, you may need to make adjustments during installation. We recommend checking your frame rail spacing before ordering to ensure proper fitment.
What materials are these light bars made from, and will they rust?
Most of our International 4700-4900 frame light bars are constructed from heavy-duty 14-gauge steel with either a chrome-plated or powder-coated finish. Chrome options provide excellent corrosion resistance when properly maintained, while powder-coated versions offer superior chip resistance. For maximum durability in harsh conditions, we also carry stainless steel options that won't rust even if the surface gets scratched. All mounting hardware is zinc-plated to resist corrosion.
How difficult is the installation, and what tools will I need?
Installation typically takes 2-3 hours and requires basic hand tools including a socket set, wrenches, and a drill with metal bits. Most light bars mount using existing frame holes, though some models may require drilling 2-4 additional holes. You'll need to remove your existing bumper first. We strongly recommend having a helper due to the weight of these units (typically 35-50 pounds). Detailed instructions are included, and no welding is required for standard installations.
Can I mount additional lights or accessories on these light bars?
Yes, our International 4700-4900 frame light bars come pre-drilled with standard light mounting holes that accommodate most 4-inch and 2-inch round lights. The bars typically feature 5-7 light positions depending on the model. The steel construction can support up to 15 pounds of additional lighting per side. Many models also include tabs or brackets for mounting air horns, light brackets, or other accessories. The powder-coated versions can be drilled for custom mounting without compromising the finish if properly sealed.
What's the difference between light bars and filler panels, and which do I need?
Light bars are functional mounting platforms that extend below your bumper to hold auxiliary lights and accessories while providing a finished appearance. Filler panels are cosmetic pieces that cover the gap between your bumper and frame rails but don't support lights. Choose a light bar if you want to add driving lights, fog lights, or other accessories. Select filler panels if you only need to cover exposed frame areas for a cleaner look. Some customers use both - light bars in front with filler panels on the sides for complete coverage.
