Freightliner M2 Business Class Fender Extensions
Frequently Asked Questions About Freightliner M2 Business Class Fender Extensions
Will these fender extensions fit my specific year and model of Freightliner M2?
Our fender extensions are designed to fit Freightliner M2 Business Class trucks from model years 2003 to present. However, there are variations between the 106 and 112 models, as well as differences in single vs. dual rear wheel configurations. Before ordering, check your truck's door jamb for the exact model designation and verify the mounting hole pattern matches your existing fenders. If you're unsure, contact us with your VIN and we'll help confirm compatibility.
What material are these fender extensions made from, and how durable are they?
Most of our Freightliner M2 fender extensions are manufactured from either heavy-duty ABS plastic or fiberglass-reinforced polymer. The ABS options typically range from 3/16" to 1/4" thickness and are impact-resistant down to -40?F. Fiberglass models offer superior chemical resistance but may require more careful handling during installation. Both materials are UV-stabilized to prevent fading and cracking from sun exposure. For maximum durability in harsh conditions, we recommend the thicker ABS options.
How difficult is the installation process, and what tools will I need?
Installation typically takes 1-2 hours per side for someone with basic mechanical skills. You'll need a drill with 3/8" and 1/2" bits, a rivet gun (for some models), basic hand tools, and masking tape for alignment. Most extensions use the existing mounting holes, but some applications require drilling 2-4 additional holes. The trickiest part is usually ensuring proper alignment before final mounting. We include detailed instructions with diagrams, and many customers find it helpful to have a second person assist with holding the extension in place during fitting.
What finish options are available, and can they be painted?
Our fender extensions come in three primary finishes: textured black, smooth black primer, and polished stainless steel (on select models). The textured black finish is ready to install and matches most OEM plastic trim. The smooth primer finish is specifically designed for custom painting and requires minimal prep work. All plastic extensions can be painted using standard automotive paints after proper surface preparation with adhesion promoter. The textured versions will need sanding to achieve a smooth painted finish.
Do these extensions actually help with spray control and DOT compliance?
Yes, properly installed fender extensions significantly reduce road spray by extending coverage 3-6 inches beyond factory fenders. This helps meet DOT requirements that mandate fenders must cover the full tire width and extend to within 8 inches of the ground when loaded. Many states have specific spray suppression requirements for commercial vehicles, and these extensions help achieve compliance while protecting your truck's body from rock chips and road debris. Keep in mind that some states may have additional requirements for mud flaps in conjunction with fender extensions.
