Frequently Asked Questions About Freightliner Columbia 112/120 Roof Trim
Will this roof trim fit my specific Columbia model year?
Our roof trim is designed to fit Freightliner Columbia 112 and 120 models from 2001-2017. However, there are slight variations between early models (2001-2010) and later models (2011-2017) due to cab design changes. Please check your VIN or contact our support team with your truck's year and specific model number to ensure proper fitment. Note that sleeper cab configurations may require different trim pieces than day cab models.
What material is the roof trim made from, and how durable is it?
Most of our Columbia roof trim options are manufactured from either heavy-gauge stainless steel (typically 430 or 304 grade) or high-impact ABS plastic with chrome plating. Stainless steel trim offers superior longevity and resistance to rust, while ABS options are more budget-friendly but may show wear after 3-5 years of exposure. Both materials are designed to withstand highway speeds and weather conditions, though stainless steel generally holds up better in harsh climates.
How difficult is the installation, and what tools do I need?
Installation typically takes 2-4 hours and requires basic hand tools including a drill with metal bits, rivet gun, measuring tape, and marking tools. Most trim pieces use existing mounting holes, but some models may require drilling 2-4 additional holes. The most challenging aspect is usually accessing the roof area safely and ensuring proper alignment. We recommend having a helper and using a sturdy ladder or scaffold. Professional installation runs $150-300 at most truck shops if you prefer not to DIY.
What styles and finishes are available for Columbia roof trim?
We stock several styles including flat stock trim (2-4 inches wide), curved aerodynamic designs, and LED-integrated options. Finishes include mirror-polished stainless, brushed stainless, chrome-plated, and painted options in black or color-matched finishes. The most popular choice is the 3-inch mirror-polished stainless for its classic look and easy maintenance. LED trim options require 12V connection and add both style and visibility.
Why is there a gap between my roof trim and cab after installation?
Gaps commonly occur due to cab settling, previous body damage, or incorrect trim selection. Columbia cabs can develop slight warping over time, especially on high-mileage trucks. To minimize gaps, use weatherstrip adhesive backing (sold separately) during installation, which helps conform the trim to minor cab irregularities. For gaps larger than 1/4 inch, you may need to slightly bend the trim or add shims behind mounting points. Pre-fitting and test mounting before final installation is strongly recommended.
