Frequently Asked Questions About Freightliner Classic Cab Lights

Will these cab lights fit my Freightliner Classic XL?

Our cab lights are designed to fit Freightliner Classic and Classic XL models from 1990 to 2010. The mounting pattern is identical across these years, with 5 lights spaced at standard intervals. However, if your truck has an aftermarket visor or custom roof modifications, you may need to adjust the mounting location. We recommend measuring your existing light spacing or contacting us with your VIN for verification.

What's the difference between LED and incandescent options, and which should I choose?

LED cab lights draw significantly less power (about 80% less), last up to 50,000 hours compared to 2,000 hours for incandescent, and provide brighter, more consistent illumination. Incandescent lights are less expensive upfront but require more frequent bulb replacements. Most customers choose LED for long-haul applications due to reduced maintenance. Both options use the same wiring harness and mounting hardware.

How difficult is the installation, and what tools do I need?

Installation typically takes 2-3 hours for someone with basic mechanical skills. You'll need a drill with a 3/4" bit (for new installations), wire strippers, crimp connectors, electrical tape, and a test light. The lights connect to your existing clearance light circuit. If replacing existing lights, removal and installation can be done in under an hour. Detailed instructions are included, and the most challenging part is usually routing the wiring through the headliner.

Are these lights DOT approved, and what about different lens colors?

Yes, all our Freightliner Classic cab lights meet DOT requirements for clearance and identification lamps. We offer amber lenses (most common and required in most states), clear lenses, and smoke lenses. Some states require amber for the front-facing lights, so check your local regulations. The lights come with standard amber lenses, but replacement lenses in other colors can be purchased separately.

What's included in the kit, and will I need anything else?

Each complete kit includes 5 cab lights with lenses, rubber base gaskets, mounting screws, a pre-assembled wiring harness with weatherproof connectors, and installation instructions. You'll need to supply wire connectors to tie into your truck's electrical system and possibly additional wire if routing to a switch. Some customers also purchase chrome or stainless steel light bars for a custom look, but these are optional accessories.
