Ford Aeromax Truck Fuel Tank Brackets & Straps

Frequently Asked Questions About Ford Aeromax Truck Fuel Tank Brackets & Straps

What year models of Ford Aeromax trucks do these fuel tank brackets and straps fit?

Our fuel tank brackets and straps are designed to fit Ford Aeromax trucks from 1988 to 1997. However, there were minor variations in tank sizes and mounting configurations throughout these years. We recommend checking your specific tank dimensions and mounting bolt patterns before ordering. Most brackets fit standard 50, 75, and 100-gallon tank configurations, but custom tank setups may require different hardware.

Are these brackets made from stainless steel or regular steel, and will they rust?

Most of our Ford Aeromax fuel tank brackets come in two options: powder-coated steel and 304 stainless steel. The powder-coated steel brackets offer good corrosion resistance for most applications and are more budget-friendly. For trucks operating in harsh environments with road salt or coastal conditions, we recommend the stainless steel option for maximum longevity. Both types are significantly more durable than OEM brackets, which were typically plain steel with minimal coating.

How difficult is it to install new fuel tank brackets and straps, and what tools do I need?

Installation typically takes 2-3 hours for an experienced mechanic or skilled DIYer. You'll need basic hand tools including socket sets (typically 3/4" and 7/8"), wrenches, and a floor jack or transmission jack to support the tank during removal. The most challenging part is safely lowering and supporting the fuel tank - we strongly recommend having a helper. Some installations may require cutting old brackets if they're severely rusted. Always drain the fuel tank before beginning work for safety.

How do I know if my fuel tank brackets need replacement?

Common signs include visible rust or corrosion on the brackets, fuel tank sagging or shifting, unusual noises when driving over bumps, or fuel gauge readings that fluctuate abnormally during acceleration or turns. During inspection, look for cracks, severe rust pitting, or stretched mounting holes. If you can flake off rust with your fingers or see daylight through rust holes, replacement is necessary. Don't wait until complete failure, as a dropped fuel tank is dangerous and expensive to repair.

What's included in a complete bracket and strap kit, and do I need any additional hardware?

A complete kit typically includes the main mounting brackets (usually 2-4 pieces depending on your tank configuration), heavy-duty straps with rubber isolators, and grade 8 mounting bolts with lock washers. Some kits also include new rubber tank cushions or pads. You may need to purchase fuel tank mounting bushings separately if yours are worn. We recommend replacing all brackets and straps at once rather than individually, as mixed old and new components can cause uneven tank support.
