Frequently Asked Questions About Ford Aeromax Truck Cab Lights
Will these cab lights fit my specific Ford Aeromax model year?
Our Ford Aeromax cab lights are designed to fit 1988-1997 Ford Aeromax models, including both the L9000 and LTL9000 series. The mounting holes and wiring configurations remained consistent throughout these production years. However, if your truck has aftermarket modifications to the cab roof or previous non-OEM light installations, you may need to verify measurements or make minor adjustments during installation.
What's the difference between LED and incandescent options, and which should I choose?
LED cab lights offer 50,000+ hour lifespan, brighter illumination, lower power draw, and better resistance to vibration compared to traditional incandescent bulbs. Incandescent lights provide the classic amber glow many drivers prefer and are typically less expensive upfront. For daily commercial use, we recommend LED for their durability and long-term cost savings. Weekend drivers or show trucks often prefer incandescent for their authentic appearance.
Do I need to drill new holes or modify my cab for installation?
Most Ford Aeromax trucks came pre-drilled with five cab light mounting locations from the factory, even if lights weren't originally installed. You'll need to remove the rubber plugs covering these holes. If your cab lacks these pre-drilled holes or you're replacing aftermarket lights with different spacing, drilling will be required. We recommend using a template and pilot holes to ensure proper alignment.
What's included in the cab light kit, and what else do I need to complete installation?
Our complete cab light kits include five marker lights, mounting gaskets, screws, and a wiring harness with ground wire. You'll need basic hand tools, wire strippers, electrical tape or heat shrink connectors, and possibly a drill if mounting holes aren't present. Some drivers also add dielectric grease to connections for weather protection. Installation typically takes 1-2 hours.
Are these DOT approved, and what about different lens colors?
Yes, all our Ford Aeromax cab lights meet DOT requirements for clearance and identification lamps. Amber is the standard and legally required color for front-facing cab lights in all states. We also offer clear lenses for off-road or show use only, and smoke lenses for a custom appearance when paired with amber LED bulbs. Always verify your local regulations before installing non-amber front-facing lights.
