Peterbilt 379 Deck Plates & Air Line Boxes
Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 379 Deck Plates & Air Line Boxes
What years and models are these deck plates compatible with?
Our deck plates and air line boxes are designed specifically for Peterbilt 379 models from 1987 to 2007. They will also fit 378 models from the same years due to the identical frame mounting points. However, they are not compatible with 389 models (2008 and newer) as the frame rail spacing and mounting hole patterns differ. Always verify your truck's exact year and model before ordering.
Are these deck plates made from stainless steel or aluminum, and which is better?
We offer both stainless steel and aluminum options. Stainless steel deck plates (typically 304 grade, 14-16 gauge) provide superior durability and corrosion resistance but add more weight (approximately 15-20 lbs per plate). Aluminum deck plates are lighter (5-8 lbs per plate) and resist corrosion well, but may show scratches more easily. Most long-haul drivers prefer stainless for its longevity, while show truck owners often choose polished aluminum for the mirror finish.
Do I need to drill new holes or modify my frame to install these?
Most of our deck plates are designed as direct bolt-on replacements using existing frame holes. No drilling is typically required for standard installations. However, some custom or extended deck plates may require drilling 2-4 additional holes. Each product listing specifies if modifications are needed. We recommend using grade 8 bolts with lock washers for secure mounting.
What's included with the air line boxes, and will they fit my current air line configuration?
Our air line boxes come with the box itself and mounting hardware, but do not include glad hands, air lines, or electrical connections. They accommodate standard 1/2 inch air lines and have cutouts for both service and emergency lines. The boxes feature rubber grommets to protect lines from chafing. Measure your current setup to ensure compatibility - standard boxes are 12 inches wide by 8 inches tall.
How do I maintain the finish on polished or chrome deck plates?
For polished stainless or aluminum, use a quality metal polish monthly and buff with a microfiber cloth. Chrome plates require gentle cleaning with chrome-specific cleaners to prevent pitting. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive pads. In winter conditions with road salt, rinse plates weekly with clean water. Many drivers apply a thin coat of wax or clear protective spray to maintain the shine between polishing sessions.
