Peterbilt 359 Frame Light Bars & Filler Panels
Frequently Asked Questions About Peterbilt 359 Frame Light Bars & Filler Panels
What years of Peterbilt 359 do these frame light bars and filler panels fit?
Our frame light bars and filler panels are designed to fit Peterbilt 359 models from 1967 through 1987. However, please note that some early models (1967-1971) may have slight variations in frame spacing. We recommend measuring your frame rails before ordering if you have a pre-1972 model. The standard frame width for most 359s is 34 inches outside-to-outside, but always verify your specific truck's measurements.
Are these light bars made from stainless steel or chrome-plated steel, and which is better for my truck?
We offer both 304 stainless steel and chrome-plated steel options. Stainless steel light bars are more expensive but provide superior corrosion resistance and require less maintenance - ideal for trucks exposed to road salt or coastal environments. Chrome-plated steel offers a mirror-like finish at a lower price point but requires regular polishing and may show pitting over time. For show trucks, chrome provides the brightest shine. For working trucks or those in harsh climates, stainless steel is the more practical choice.
Do I need to drill holes in my frame to install these light bars, and what tools are required?
Most of our frame light bars use existing frame holes or clamp-on mounting systems, so drilling is typically not required. Installation generally requires basic hand tools: 9/16" and 5/8" wrenches, socket set, and possibly a drill with 3/8" bit for light wiring access. Full light bars usually take 2-3 hours to install, while filler panels can be mounted in 30-45 minutes. We include detailed instructions with each product, and many mount using grade 8 bolts through existing crossmember holes.
What's the difference between full frame light bars and filler panels?
Full frame light bars run the entire length between your front and rear fenders (typically 8-12 feet) and include multiple light mounting positions. Filler panels are shorter sections (usually 24-48 inches) designed to fill specific gaps, such as between the cab and sleeper or behind the front fender. Filler panels are perfect for adding a finished look without the expense of full-length bars, while full light bars provide maximum lighting options and the classic long-hood Peterbilt appearance.
Will these light bars work with my existing chicken lights, and what size lights do they accommodate?
Our frame light bars are pre-drilled to accept standard 2" round LED or incandescent lights (chicken lights). The spacing is typically 6-8 inches on center, though custom spacing is available. Most bars accommodate between 10-20 lights per side depending on length. The mounting holes are compatible with common light grommets and standard 3-wire lighting systems. If you're converting from incandescent to LED, no modifications are needed - just ensure your flasher is LED-compatible to avoid rapid flashing.
