Frequently Asked Questions About Kenworth T600 Toggle Extensions
Will these toggle extensions fit my specific year Kenworth T600?
Our toggle extensions are designed to fit Kenworth T600 models from 1984 through 2007. They work with both aerocab and studio sleeper configurations. However, if your truck has aftermarket modifications to the hood or grille area, we recommend measuring your existing toggle bolts first. Standard factory toggles are typically 3/8"-16 thread size with approximately 2-3 inches of exposed length.
What material are these toggle extensions made from, and will they rust?
Most of our toggle extensions are manufactured from either 304 stainless steel or chrome-plated steel. Stainless steel options provide superior corrosion resistance and require minimal maintenance. Chrome-plated versions offer a mirror finish but may require periodic polishing and can show wear over time in harsh weather conditions. Both materials are significantly more durable than the factory zinc-plated toggles.
Do I need any special tools or skills to install these extensions?
Installation is straightforward and typically takes 15-30 minutes. You'll need basic hand tools: a socket wrench set (usually 9/16" or 5/8"), and possibly thread locker (recommended but not required). Simply remove your existing toggle bolts, thread on the extensions, and reinstall. No drilling, cutting, or modifications to your hood are necessary. The most common challenge is accessing tight spaces, so having a swivel socket can be helpful.
What length and style options are available?
Toggle extensions typically come in 2", 3", 4", and 6" lengths. The most popular styles include straight extensions, angled extensions (45-degree bend), and loop-style extensions. Finishes available are polished stainless, chrome, black powder coat, and occasionally colored options. Consider your hood-to-bumper clearance when selecting length - longer isn't always better if it interferes with hood operation.
Will adding toggle extensions affect my hood alignment or operation?
When properly installed, toggle extensions should not affect hood alignment or operation. However, choosing extensions that are too long can cause the hood to sit improperly or create stress points. As a general rule, measure the clearance between your closed hood and any obstacles (like bumper or grille guard) and select extensions that maintain at least 1/2" clearance. If you're running an aftermarket bumper, verify compatibility before ordering.
