International RH Steer Axle Springs & Hangers
Frequently Asked Questions About International RH Steer Axle Springs & Hangers
Will these springs and hangers fit my specific International truck model and year?
Our International RH (right hand) steer axle springs and hangers are designed to fit most International truck models including the 9200, 9300, 9400, 9900 series, and ProStar/LoneStar models from the mid-1990s through current production years. However, compatibility can vary based on your truck's specific configuration, such as set-back or set-forward axles. We recommend checking your existing spring pack part numbers or contacting our support team with your VIN to ensure proper fitment before ordering.
What's the difference between OEM and aftermarket springs, and which should I choose?
OEM springs are manufactured to exact factory specifications and typically use higher-grade spring steel with precise heat treatment processes. Aftermarket options can vary in quality but often provide good value for standard applications. For heavy-duty or severe-service applications, we recommend OEM or premium aftermarket brands. Look for springs with shot-peened leaves and proper military wrap on the main leaf. Budget aftermarket springs may work fine for lighter duty applications but may have shorter service life under heavy loads.
Can I replace just the springs or hangers individually, or do I need to replace everything as a set?
While you can technically replace components individually, we strongly recommend replacing springs and hangers as a complete set on both sides of the axle. Mismatched components can cause uneven ride height, premature wear, and handling issues. If one spring has failed, the opposite side has likely experienced similar wear. Additionally, old hangers with new springs (or vice versa) can create stress points that lead to early failure. For safety and optimal performance, replace both sides completely.
What tools and expertise do I need for installation, and how long does it typically take?
Installation requires heavy-duty jack stands, a floor jack capable of supporting your truck's front end weight, spring compressors, and standard hand tools including large sockets and breaker bars. Most experienced technicians complete the job in 3-4 hours per side. Critical steps include safely supporting the vehicle, controlling spring tension during removal, and torquing all hardware to specification (typically 250-300 ft-lbs for U-bolts). Many customers choose professional installation due to safety concerns and the need for proper alignment afterward.
How do I know when my springs or hangers need replacement, and what are the warning signs?
Common indicators include visible cracks in spring leaves, broken or missing leaves, excessive rust or corrosion, sagging ride height (more than 1 inch difference side-to-side), and worn or elongated hanger bolt holes. You may also notice harsh ride quality, increased bounce, or wandering steering. During inspection, look for shiny wear marks between leaves indicating loss of arch, and check hangers for cracks around bolt holes or mounting points. Any broken leaf or cracked hanger requires immediate replacement for safety.
