Frequently Asked Questions About Freightliner Classic Lights
What year models are these lights compatible with?
Our Freightliner Classic lights are designed to fit Classic, Classic XL, and FLD models from 1990 through 2010. The most common fitments are for 1996-2007 Classic XL models. Always verify your specific model year before ordering, as some lights have slight mounting variations between early (1990-1995) and later (1996-2010) production years. If you're unsure about compatibility, contact us with your VIN number and we'll help verify the correct fit.
Are these lights DOT approved and will they pass inspection?
Yes, all our Freightliner Classic headlights, tail lights, and marker lights meet or exceed DOT/SAE standards and will pass inspection when properly installed. Each light includes the required DOT marking on the lens. For LED upgrades, we only carry lights that maintain the proper light output patterns and intensity levels required by federal regulations. Keep in mind that some states have specific requirements for light color and placement, so check your local regulations if you're making modifications.
How difficult is the installation process, and what tools do I need?
Most light replacements are straightforward and take 30-60 minutes per light. For headlights, you'll need basic hand tools including Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, and possibly a 10mm socket. Tail lights typically require removing 4-6 mounting bolts accessible from inside the rear panel. LED conversions are plug-and-play with factory connectors, though some older trucks may need a load resistor or flasher relay upgrade to prevent hyper-flashing. We recommend having dielectric grease on hand to protect connections from corrosion.
What's the difference between OEM style and LED upgrade options?
OEM style lights use traditional halogen bulbs and match the original factory appearance and light output. LED upgrades offer 50,000+ hour lifespans, instant illumination, lower power draw, and brighter output. While LED headlights provide better visibility, some drivers prefer the warm color temperature of halogens. For marker and tail lights, LEDs are generally superior in every way. Price-wise, OEM styles typically cost 40-60% less than LED versions, but LEDs often pay for themselves through reduced replacement frequency and lower electrical system strain.
Do you offer complete light kits or do I need to buy each light separately?
We offer both individual lights and complete kit options. Our full exterior light packages include both headlights, tail lights, front turn signals, and all required marker lights, saving you 15-20% compared to buying separately. For those doing partial upgrades, all lights are available individually. Many customers start with headlights for improved visibility, then upgrade other lights over time. We also stock replacement lenses, mounting brackets, and pigtail connectors if you only need to repair rather than replace.
