Mack RD Truck AC Driers & Compressors

Frequently Asked Questions About Mack RD Truck AC Driers & Compressors

Will these AC driers and compressors fit my Mack RD truck?

Mack RD trucks were built over many years with different engine and cab configurations, so AC drier and compressor part numbers can vary by model year and setup. Always check your truck's VIN and existing part number against the listed specifications before ordering, or contact our parts team to confirm fitment for your specific Mack RD.

How do I know if my AC drier or compressor needs to be replaced?

Common signs include weak or warm airflow from the vents, unusual noises coming from the compressor, visible refrigerant leaks or oily residue around fittings, and the AC system cycling on and off rapidly. If your system has been opened for repair, the drier should typically be replaced since it absorbs moisture and contaminants that can damage the rest of the AC system.

Do I need to replace the AC drier every time I replace the compressor?

In most cases, yes. When a compressor is replaced or the AC system is opened for any major repair, replacing the drier is generally recommended since it filters moisture and debris from the refrigerant. Reusing an old drier after a compressor replacement can introduce contaminants back into a newly serviced system.

Can I install an AC compressor or drier myself, or do I need a professional?

AC system work involves handling refrigerant, which requires proper certification and recovery equipment under EPA regulations. While mounting a compressor or swapping a drier involves standard hand tools, evacuating and recharging the system afterward should be done by a qualified technician with the right equipment to avoid refrigerant loss and ensure the system is properly sealed and tested.

What is the difference between OEM and aftermarket AC driers and compressors for my Mack RD?

OEM parts are made to the original manufacturer's specifications and are a safe match for your truck's existing system. Aftermarket parts are built to fit and perform similarly, often at a lower price point. Both options can work well, but it's important to verify the part meets your system's pressure and fitting requirements regardless of which you choose.
