Freightliner FL70-FL80 Mud Flaps
Frequently Asked Questions About Freightliner FL70-FL80 Mud Flaps
What years and models do these mud flaps fit?
Our Freightliner FL70-FL80 mud flaps are designed to fit all FL70 and FL80 models manufactured from 1991 through 2010. This includes both single and tandem axle configurations. The mounting brackets are compatible with standard frame rails found on these models. If your truck has aftermarket modifications to the frame or suspension, we recommend measuring your current setup before ordering.
What material options are available and which is most durable?
We offer mud flaps in three material options: standard rubber (3/8 inch thick), heavy-duty rubber (1/2 inch thick), and anti-sail polymer. The heavy-duty rubber provides the best balance of durability and cost-effectiveness for most applications, lasting 3-5 years under normal conditions. The anti-sail polymer flaps are ideal for highway driving as they resist wind flutter but may crack in extreme cold below -20F. Standard rubber works well for lighter duty applications or warmer climates.
Do I need special tools or brackets for installation?
Installation typically requires basic hand tools including a drill with 1/2 inch bit, socket wrench set, and measuring tape. Most mud flaps come with universal mounting brackets and hardware. However, if your FL70 or FL80 has factory mud flap brackets already installed, you may only need to replace the flaps themselves. Installation usually takes 30-45 minutes per side. Some customers with air suspension systems may need longer brackets, which we offer separately.
What sizes are available and how do I choose the right one?
Standard sizes for FL70-FL80 trucks are 24x24 inches for single axles and 24x30 inches for tandems. Measure from your current bracket mounting point to approximately 6-8 inches from the ground for proper coverage. Width should extend at least 3 inches beyond your outside tire edge. Custom sizes are available for lowered trucks or those with oversized tires. Quarter fender flaps (12x24 inches) are also available for behind the front wheels.
Will these mud flaps work with my dump body or flatbed configuration?
Yes, our mud flaps are compatible with various body configurations including dump bodies, flatbeds, and box trucks. Dump body applications may require adjustable or spring-loaded hangers to prevent damage when dumping. For flatbeds, we recommend anti-sail flaps to reduce wind resistance. Some configurations may need bracket extensions or relocated mounting points - our customer service team can help determine the best setup for your specific application.
